I am looking ahead to the next step in this process and I need some input from some of the more senior members if possible.

As far as I can tell, I am going to need the I-864 for Thailand, maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong?

The only problem I can possibly see, is that I took unpaid leave of absence for most of 2005 and had almost no income for that year, (I had enough assets to afford to do this). My individual income for 2003 and 2004 averaged more than 4 times 125% of the 'poverty level' for 3 people and my income year to date is about 5 times that same figure.

I've also owned a home for over 20 years, (well, the mortgage company still owns part!), and have retirement accounts etc.

Logic tells me this is not going to be a problem at all and I'm just looking for something to worry about, but then I also wonder why they want 3 years worth of tax returns... and if in fact they will need an I-864 for Thailand. (Maybe I'm just a worry-wort!)

I cannot help with the other questions, but as far as the info on the U.S. embassy in Thailand, goes, you'll need I-134.

Even if I-864 form is not needed, some consulates ask for 3 years of tax returns. Other people going through Thailand may assist you on that. You can find them by searching here: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/filterlist.php

Would such a supplemental request be like an RFE or would they ask for it up-front?

DS157 is a form to be filled out. Not sure whether she'd have to sign it in front of the CO, though. I don't know how it works because we don't have to send it to the consulate in Brazil.

The best way to get accurate information is by contacting other people whose petitions went through the US embassy in Thailand. Use the link I provided you with above to find who are the VJs who did and then you can try and PM them.

I-134 is the affidavit of support to be used for K visas when an affidavit of support is required.

Thailand asks for the one most recent income tax return and will generally return the others if more are offered. (They did mine.) However you might want to politely insist that they look at more in your case to better document your earnings history, and you might also want to include a letter explaining your income history for the past year or so along with your financial documentation.

What's most important is your current income. Provide a letter from your employer (perhaps including confirmation of your unpaid leave in 2005 and your return to work) and a few recent pay stubs to document that you are currently employed and working.
