Just curious... I've heard JFK is the best airport to fly through if you want to try for a temporary EAD. Does anybody know how good of a chance someone has of actually receiving one there?

My fiance's been offered a wonderful job here, they should be okay waiting until he gets his EAD but we want to see if using JFK as a POE would be beneficial as far as trying to get the temp EAD goes, or if he'd have about the same chance of getting one at LAX which is where he'd be flying into otherwise.

Sorry for the ramble smile.gif Thanks!

I dont think I've heard of many people having problems getting the stamp there.... But anyone if you did speak up!

Jfk still seems to be the best POE to get the temp EAD stamp
Craig2006
Eliana received her EAD stamp there and didn't even ask for it.

Just remember that if he gets a temp EAD he should stop work when it expires and he is still waiting for the 1 year EAD that you will file for with AOS.... it can take 90 days+ to get the 1 year EAD from the date on the NOA1.... the temp EAD is only valid for 90 days from the date of entry...

Yeah, that's the one part of this whole process we've had any sort of luck in! His job is at a university and goes by semesters, so the job is out from the beginning of December to the end of January... which gives him the 90 days to work without missing hardly anything since school will be out right after that, and by the time it starts up again he should have AOS well underway and a real EAD.

I've started telling myself that the whole 7 or so months of delay we went through was really just to set him up for the pretty perfect timing he'll get with the job and temp EAD (should he get it)... laughing.gif whatever works I guess!!

He won't get one in LAX but he WILL be given one at JFK (it's compulsory), and it's relatively quick. Just make sure he's flying in to JFK, then get's a connecting flight (2 hours or so later)......... it worked for me and it's zero hassle

Only telling people here what the immigration officer told me at the POE in JFK: "everyone gets one that comes through here".........

PaulC,

If that's an accurate quote I don't see where you got the idea that giving the EA stamp was compulsary. Standard practice, perhaps, but not compulsary.

If you don't want to get shot, don't change the message you're carrying.

We received the EAD stamp through JFK without a problem.

However, they took my fiancee into another room and did not allow me in where they asked her if she really intended to marry me etc. At no time did they ask me if she wanted a work stamp, and they didn't ask her either. I'm not sure who one would tell at the JFK POE, but we got it anyway.

Another point of frustration is that the immigration officials kept my fiancee's sealed package from the embassy in her country which contained her medical records and birth certificate. When we adjusted status we had to send copies of her medical exam records and vaccinations, which we did not have because immigration kept them at the POE, and a copy of her birth certificate which we also did not have (again because immigration kept it at the POE).

Long story short, we had to order the records from her country which delayed the whole process. While corresponding with many people on visa journey, I have discovered that many folks do not bring a certified copy of their birth certificate to the U.S. because there is one inside their sealed envelope. Be sure to bring other certified copies of everything.
