To all who have knowledge on this subject:

Ok Folks,

I was wondering about this issue.

Question: Is it proper in thinking that all financial personal debts (weather it is a debt of Credit Card, or against the Govt.) should be paid completely off before the beneficary goes before the Interview?

I am not sure what the stipualtion is around the world at other U.S. Embassies, but my main concern is the one in Manila, Philippines. My purpose is so that their is no room for the consular interviewing my fiancee to deny her. I am not sure if they do any type of credit check on the applicant or not b 4 the interview!

Thanks for anyones in depth knowledge! good.gif

i wouldn't call my knowledge in depth. the CO will not be looking at the beneficary's financial status, he will be looking at the petitioner's to make sure he/she will be able to support the beneficary. they want to be sure the beneficary will not become a public charge.

I agree. I don't think the DOS cares about foreign debt. We would have read this many times if it was the case.

I also agree. Foreign debt never came up as an issue during our process.

Ok, well that was easy enough. blush.gif

You would think that with the way creditors hold you accountable for debts, and especially if you had debts against your own govt (like borrowing money against your Social Security) that they would not allow you to leave their country "LEGALLY" until you pay them off.

What a strange world we live in! blink.gif

having a credit doenst mean you are not entitled for a visa.

I've never known of anyone that could use their retirement savings to borrow against?! If that's what you mean as far as Social Security. At least here in Canada.

We paid off Marlene's credit card after the interview and we don't plan on repaying a loan agains her social security until we go back to visit.

They meant social security. You can get a loan against it in the Philippines.
