Eyeful of breast-feeding mom sparks outrageNEW YORK - "I was SHOCKED to see a giant breast on the cover of your magazine," one person wrote. "I immediately turned the magazine face down," wrote another. "Gross," said a third.
These readers weren't complaining about a sexually explicit cover, but rather one of a baby nursing, on a wholesome parenting magazine — yet another sign that Americans are squeamish over the sight of a nursing breast, even as breast-feeding itself gains greater support from the government and medical community.
Babytalk is a free magazine whose readership is overwhelmingly mothers of babies. Yet in a poll of more than 4,000 readers, a quarter of responses to the cover were negative, calling the photo — a baby and part of a woman's breast, in profile — inappropriate.

No need to put it on the cover of a magazine. Might as well put a vagina on there with a baby coming out, it's just as natural right?

It's a BABY magazine.... I guess they should put a black bar over the boob so that it doesn't offend the oh-so-sensitive N.American men and women. I mean really....what are they THINKING? What does a breast have to do with a baby??? Nothing! Babies are brought by the stork and come with a 2 year supply of Gerber food. Breasts don't come into the picture at all.
However, I DO think that nursing babies in full view of the public is weird. That's why many of the malls have "nursing stations". Failing that, there are these things called restrooms. It isn't that it's gross, but it can be a major distraction. Hard to have a serious conversation with someone when there's spawn making suckling noises....

Honestly, that's what breasts are for. WE turned them into sexual objects.
However, I must admit that I get grossed out when a woman randomly pulls out her breast and starts breastfeeding, you see this a LOT in latin american countries.

I don't find it offensive. It's a nice pic.
I used to work in publishing. A company I once worked for produced educational sex books. All very tasteful with soft lighting etc. Some of them were used in schools so it was all above board. When it came to Americanizing the book it blew up a whole big storm because the American market INSISTED on the nipples to be airbrushed out because they looked erect. Both the men's AND women's. So they looked like complete freaks with no nipples. It was ridiculous.

*kicks the dirt* *I* wanted to tell her that!! *pouts* That should be *Typically* nursing mothers are not very flat-chested. There are plenty of flat-chested women who do nurse. Breast size only affects nursing ability (small-breasted women simply have to nurse more often, usually) if the breasts are "tubular"; in which case the woman often can't nurse at all. Yes, I know far too much about it, for some reason.

I think there is nothing more beautiful then a baby suckling on his/her mother and IMO there is nothing at all wrong with the picture nor the fact that it is on the front of a magazine about babies.
On breast feeding in public.....There is nothing more cruel then to let a baby get distressed when out in public because he/she is hungry and a mother is worried about offending people or is told she cannot breastfeed in public by some uptight person
I breast fed all my children in public, in front of any family or friends. I would just put a cloth diaper over my shoulder to avoid anyone being embarrassed for whatever reason.

It's a breast!

How dare she use it for what it is meant for! Personally was never comfortable nursing in public, always placed a blanket over my shoulder and let it hang down to cover myself. Of course folks likely knew what I was doing, but oh well if a child is hungry you feed it. It is called modesty and some people just don't have it.
I find this photo about as offensive as a good piece of artwork.....

Guys, I'm not dumb...I know when breast feeding a woman is not as flat as usual...but not every woman has a suddenly big bosom because of breast feeding.

Yeah they may get bigger, but not like this picture. At least it's not happened to my friends who have gone through it. So my question still stands...would it make a difference if the pic wasn't as voluptuous? For women it wouldn't make a difference either way, for men it may. So do men like this pic because it's a voluptuous one? What if the baby was slobbering everywhere and making a weird face? I am not against breast feeding, I support it, and thinks it's a lovely thing between baby and mom.
