I've looked at the USCIS website. There's a whole page on the medical exams, including the form the civil surgeon fills in - AND what they're testing for.
Here's the thing: they test for gonorrhea and chlamydia. Well, the only way you can diagnose those things is a swab down the penis for men and a smear-test-like swab for women. The guidelines on the USCIS website for the doctors also state 'to include complete disrobing'. Sorry, but if this were Europe I think the Court of Human Rights would have something to say about that.
SURELY they don't do this??????????? Anyone had the medicals? Did it involve any genital stuff? If so I'd be totally outraged and would not set foot in the US if I didn't love my husband so much!
From hearsay, it seems as if not all these things are carried out on the ground, as it were. But if you look at the USCIS website this is what the doctors are instructed to do - it's DISGUSTING!

I dont know about the procedure as we havent gotten that far, however I can say, I am glad I dont have to have it done!!!
But when we were first married my hubby was gonna stay and just adjust his status from here and we went for a medical and they did not do that, tho we cannot include that medical due to the time it was given (we were told they must be done within 6 months of interview) Anywhoo circumstances changed and we are filing differently now so he will have a new medical. I would think that they me able to check those things with your blood, maybe I am wrong.

It's a basic medical, which always include disrobing as far as I know. I don't see the problem at all.
The genital exam is brief and was carried out by a lady nurse. I'm sure you can ask for a lady nurse to be present if you feel uncomfortable, but a strip-down-medical is by no means disgusting or something that would need to be referred to Human Rights. They do not perform a smear test or anything like that, it's brief and serves it purpose. Surely you get a smear test every year and are not apalled at them?
They test for HIV and chlamydia with a blood test in Ireland, not sure in the UK.

I never had to completely undress for my medical....nor were the frilly bits examined etc. I was allowed to keep my knickers (wore them that day

) and bra on, with a robe put on over the top. There are some countries that do seem to go the full distance for these medicals.

Even if they DID do this.... what is the big issue with having a full medical? Why is it a problem to be tested for diseases that you and your partner should know about?
You've never had a Pap smear? Is that also "disgusting"?
Sorry if your body "disgusts" you so much, but they (US Gov't) want to be sure that you don't have any nasty secrets you're possibly keeping from your husband or, more importantly, that would result in you likely becoming a public charge in the future (ie: Welfare, Medicaid, etc)

Sheesh.
An exam for infectious diseases is hardly disgusting. It's a medical necessity.
That being said, they don't do any swabs. They will probably ask you to disrobe.
Have a baby and then we'll see how much modesty you have left......personally when it comes to medical procedures I have none. The docs and nurses are medical professionals - not perverts.

Yes, thoroughly vile.
America is such a backward-arse country.... IMAGINE! Taking off your clothes for a medical exam. Why, in the UK, doctors use their magic X-Ray vision to see through clothes! They can give you a full exam in 42 seconds without even having to touch you! The United States is still living in the stone age. I'll bet they even still use petrol in their cars instead of them running entirely on marmite like they do in the UK.....

Cian, Look at your timeline. You talk of being fondled as well as getting to first, second, third base. If you were so 'modest' you wouldn't label that way.
As for the dr's examing you, its routine to them...Apparently those that have an issue with this can stay where you are.

My medical was fine, was split into 2 doctors, one did my chest x-ray and handed me my robe, i stripped behind the curtain.. boxers and all.. to which the doctor giggled and replied "no.. only waist up.. you can keep those on"
Had my chest x-ray, went through to the other doctor who did the other part of the exam, stripped but left my boxers on and robe, laid down, did her stuff on the upper half and then just said "need to take a little peek".. and that was it : )

She's apparently confused and has no sense of humor.
To the OP... your response certainly does seem extreme. Don't you disrobe for your medicals in the UK? Disrobing merely means that you take off your street clothes and wear a medical gown, not that you have to stand around naked.

I had my medical yesterday in Oklahoma for my AOS application and I was fully clothed for all of it and didn't even have to lie down on the bench. He did the basics...blood pressure, pulse, looked in my ears, mouth, tapped my knees asked a few questions and sent me off for my blood test and 1 immunization that I was missing. Lasted about 10 mins in total...cost a fortune though!

All I know is that when I called to schedule my appointment the lady said I must bring my own ginecologist tests and statement from my doc saying I am fine. HeŽll draw the blood and take the x-ray though, dunno if heŽll have me undress to check for the female thing or what.

My fiance had to completely disrobe for her medical exam and be subjected to an examination "to prove she was a woman". Others experiencing examinations at the International Committee for Migration (in Moscow, one of three US govt approved providers) report similar treatment.
You can find two threads on this topic by Searcher.
My fiance reports this aspect of the exam was quite degrading, not at all medical in nature, but apparently calculated to humiliate the woman applying.
We don't look forward to going through this again.

Weird. During my medical in Dublin I had to take off my t-shirt for the xray, but that was pretty much all. I thought that the medicals would be standardized within a country

How many people die each year of breast, cervical, prostate and colon cancer because God forbid someone see the plumbing??? Not to mention the people who don't get diagnosed with and treated for STD's that become bigger problems AND are spread on to others.
An attitude like this toward medical exams cuts the survival rate of millions of people. They can turn me upside down and shake me like a christmas tree for all I care. Get over what's basically just another patch of flesh.

interesting topic...
when my hubby (then fiance) had his medical in UK, he was seen by a "Dr. Bagdhadi"...who was an egyptian gynecologist. he said the exam was the most thorough exam he's ever had.

apparently, there was quite a bit of close inspection of his "bits".
in the end, it was sooo worth it, though...because it meant we could be together. <3
