So my SO will be here any moment now I can just feel it! I was calling a few travel agencies to get rates on airfare and everything was 1000+!!! american airlines stopped flying out of asuncion (it now has the dubious distinction of being the only capital in S.A. that doesn't have AA flights - oh dear). luckily that started in Dec..I think I took one of the last flights out of there actually lol. So yeah, this is depressing. I was thinking 800-900 range. and orbitz / yahoo flights doesn't even have any outgoing flights from asuncion! so if anyone's flown out there recently or knows some good airlines (TAM?) let me know! thanks.

The time of year that you're flying makes a difference. You'll see airfare fall again just after Labor Day.

I was looking for airfare to there a few months ago (didn't end up going). The cheapest way I found was to fly into Sao Paulo and travel to Asuncion *on a Brazilian airline (TAM, Gol, Varig (although that is now bankrupt) from there. It was hundreds of dollars cheaper to make two bookings.

I dont think Orbitz has many flights that originate outside of USA and Canada. Correct me if i'm wrong?

in the last 2 days airfare has skyrocketed again. a flight i was looking at in january went up 30% overnight. just keep trying, they seem to really be fluctuating recently.
