Just a poll to see when people first told their sig. other 'I love you!' and who said it first in the relationship. I realize many people here communicated online as friends prior to officially beginning a romantic relationship, but I guess you should answer the second question based on when you personally think your relationship began, whether Romantic or at all ;-)

As for me... my fiance' told me "Ti amo tanto" about 1 month after we began dating good.gif He said it first biggrin.gif
sparkofcreation
Errr ... he said it several months before our "relationship" began. I freaked out. Understandably, I think. We'd known each other almost a year by then but we were just friends.
iceyspots
I said it, around two months after we were talking

Certainly it doesn't wink.gif LOL -- maybe I should have added "...And did you/he/she actually mean it? Yes. No. Dunno."
BelwinMills
He said it after 2 years of being friends. And a couple weeks we spent togther when I was down with my college group. He called me and said the sweet words and I never accepted another collect call from him again laughing.gif
Mandi+Ryan
I, the USC, said it first. Though my fiancé was thinking it too. We were together about 2ish months. I said it to him, and it felt SO GREAT to hear him say it back. wub.gif
luvaLimey
we danced around actually saying for a while.

It was kind of sweet the way we found every other way of saying it instead of saying those words.

But I know when he says it, he means it. He doesn't say things he doesn't mean.

And I mean it too. I love him so much. I feel like I didn't really know what love was until I met him.
moondancer627
He said it over the phone after one of our first few weekends together.

Is this bad? Neither of us can remember... laughing.gif

I'm pretty sure he was first...but I can't confirm that.

It was about 7 days into my first visit here, we were driving down the road, Dave was very quiet, I asked him if everything was ok, he said "yes, but I don't know how to say this.... basically I've fallen in love with you" I said " oh good, so have I!" Since then I don't think a day has passed that we've not told the other I love you.

So it was a week after our first meeting and 5 years since we first started talking.

this is a subject i find really interesting ... i feel no huge need or compulsion to tell geoff that i love him every single day or every time i leave the house or anytime we may ever be apart and he feels the same.

our love is complete and true and is shown on a daily basis ... mere words alone can't compete with our actions. saying some phrase over and over ends up sounding like: i like mayo on my fries ... it loses it's intended meaning after a while.

i don't know ... ya'll know i'm left of center already! wink.gif tongue.gif

I feel the same way. But yet, as time goes on, I keep sort of expecting "I love you" at the end of many calls, or at least feel the compulsion to say it myself. I have no idea why. Is it just because of what I've grown up with? I guess that's what we do in my nuclear family, so perhaps that's why, although we have made an effort to not say that at those certain conventional times to try to make it mean more when we say it. I dunno.

I've never been an "i love you" kinda person with my family, I think I've said it to my parents twice out loud.. we always say we don't need to say it, it's a given.

However Dave's a long distance truck driver. I've always said "mind how you go, I love you" while he's out on the road, I guess it's quicker than saying "if anything should happen to you I'd be devastated and please make it home" tongue.gif

Ha! exactly what I was going to say... laughing.gif

As for the over use of 'I love You'....I don't feel it has lost any of it's meaning, I also hear it daily before he takes off for work....I still like to hear it 3 years down the line so it can't be all bad laughing.gif

My husband told me he loves me first..smile.gif
Bunnyqr
My fiance said it first, the 6th day after meeting him, and I thought "Yeah, sure buddy, you love me. I'm flying back to New York tomorrow and then you will say this to someone else next week". But I was wrong. He did really mean it and he has never stopped saying it. I never get tired of him saying it. It always sounds good to my heart. It will never sound as blah as "I like mayo on my fries" (quote from another member post). It all depends on the two people that say it to each other. It's their message to other one and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sagapo pole, pole, pole. Se latrevo!

John (USC) said it first, the day after we met in person (after 5 weeks of emails and phone calls). I was a bit freaked out as it seemed too good to be true and I didn't want to say it until I was sure...which I was about 5 days later.
CarolineM
I said it first...we had been friends for two years before I said it although I had fallen in love with him after about 6 months. Our situation was complicated smile.gif

On and I, the USC, said it first smile.gif

Don't remember... doesn't matter now
Parivar CSK
He said it first (Male non-USC) about 4 months after talking online, though I already was thinking the same thing but wouldn't say it until he did. innocent.gif

We still tell eachother multiple times per day "I love you". Not because we have to hear it but because we do like saying it to eachother, it's a natural part of our conversations. We also say "miss you" to eachother while he's at work, we chat on aim while he's at work sometimes. laughing.gif Mushy, huh? luv.gif (and he's been the US with me about 2 years!)

He said it first but I kissed him first. wink.gif

kisschick1976
I said it first, doped up on Dramamine on a train to York. laughing.gif laughing.gif laughing.gif He didn't say it back.... unsure.gif blush.gif awkward.............

I said it again a couple days later, he didn't say it back again... so I just came out with it and asked him how he felt about me and to be honest. he said, "Well I love you too." in a 'DUHHH, you haven't figured it out yet?' sort of way laughing.gif I asked him if that was how he felt why didn't he say it? he said he was too shy to say it.

I knew I had strong feelings for him before we met in person, before my trip I even asked myself... 'omg do I love him already?' ohmy.gif I waited until I spent time with him first before I made my mind up for sure. He says he felt exactly the same way luv.gif

I'm the USC btw for all you newbies out there tongue.gif
Sheherazade
he did...2-3 days after we met. and i told him he was nuts. lol to this day he points it out how i didn't believe him at first. wink.gif

Marlon told me he loved me about a month after talking to each other. He had to build himself up to say it and it was so cute! Of course I echoed the sentiment! good.gif
bora bora
My husband said it first (te amo). I don't remember when or how but I know it was him.
Of course I was right behind that one wink.gif .
msu17
He said it first. It was within 2 weeks of meeting and 1.5 weeks of dating, so I thought it would be bad to say it so soon. I did tell my mom that I was going to marry this guy though biggrin.gif
