the answer my friend...is blowin in the wind.......and that would be tumbleweeds..... what happened in this thread.....*sigh* jest.gif
I will be taking my ailing husband to the doctor today...his knee is killing him and he has a knot in his stomach where the top of the six pack is at and on the left side...(what is that called...) I hope its not a hernia....

what is it with Jordan and tiny clothes...I DID SEE large women there...A LOT of them....where the heck do they get clothes at??? Why aren't things sold in larger sizes??? My husbands sisters must think i'm a size 3 coz when he came here this past December (daaaang it's been 10 months already.....anyway) they sent me 3 shirts...all size SMALL...now, my thighs might be able to wear them ... or maybe 1 on each arm.... I so much appreciated the thought in it..but I think they forgot what I looked like. They sent us a package and we received it yesterday...it had the most lovely hijab in it..I LOVE IT and they sent a prayer dress...I guess I'm going to have to get some fabric to make it bigger...it fits..but just a bit snug and I know they are supposed to be flowing so that you can't differentiate any part of the body from the chin down. I'm more embarrassed than anything ....
Thanks for letting me vent smile.gif I love you all!! yes.gif goofy.gif

hahaha - I totally couldn't see what was confusing you guys. I read it over a couple times and it made sense to me...maybe its that I am 4'11" (anda 1/2) and I say it the same way? I bet I know what she means because when you get regular size thats too long, you can get them hemmed from the bottom, then the knees are in the wrong place, the zippers too long, the space between you and the inseam...effectively, its the regular pants are the ones that look and feel short.

In another thread, someone mentioned that x-mas takes the christ out of christmas......... I was watching something on the discovery channel the other day and they said the real reason behind writing it as x-mas is coz of the greek letter x... and they used the letter x when spelling christ (at least i think it was greek..i could be wrong...but it was another language) so therefore, using xmas is not taking christ out of christmas ..its merely using another language.

interesting huh...

Yes, I thought that there was probably valid reasons for writing XMAS when I first heard this comment. See below what I lifted from this website:
http://www.crivoice.org/cyxmas.html

The Origin of "Xmas"
The abbreviation of "Xmas" for Christmas, long reviled by many conservative and Low Church Christians, is not nearly as blasphemous as many contend. Rather than a sacrilegious removal of "Christ" from Christmas and replacing him with an unknown, as some claim, the "Xmas" abbreviation has a long history in the church. In Greek, the language in which the New Testament was first written, "chi" (c or C), which is almost identical to the Roman alphabet "X," is the first letter of the word "Christ" (cristoV, or as it would be written in older manuscripts, CRISTOS). In fact, the symbol of the fish in the early church came from using the first letter of several titles used for Jesus (Jesus Christ Son of God Savior) that when combined spelled the Greek word for fish (icquV, ichthus).

In the early days of printing when typesetting was done by hand and was very tedious and expensive, abbreviations were common. The church began to use the abbreviation "X" for the word "Christ" in religious publications. From there, the abbreviation moved into general use in newspapers and other publications, and "Xmas" became an accepted way of printing "Christmas."

SOS I need help! Dawn gave me JP's recipe for kanafa and I want to make it today. I lost it! Dawn is working and JP is sleeping, dreaming of shoes.

Does anybody know the ingredients? I already have the special cheese and the phyllo dough. Do I need orange water or rose water? What nuts do I need? and what kind of butter? I usually can find anything on the net but for some reason, I can't find a cheese kanafa recipe.

Kanafeh

2 Packages Shredded Phyllo Dough
Kanafeh Food Coloring
1 Stick of unsalted butter, melted
2 packages of Nabulsi sweet cheese, sliced into 1/4" thick slices
Raw pistachios

Large Pan

Sugar Syrup without any rose or orange water, just plain syrup(if you need the recipe let me know)

1. After the dough is thawed, mix in some of the melted butter and mix. You may not need all of it, we just need to coat the dough and get it separated. Mix in the Kanafeh coloring (its powder), use as much as you like until you get the shade of orange you like. I have never used regular food coloring for this so I don't know the results.

2. In the large pan, spread out about half the phyllo and pat it down. Make sure the bottom is fully covered.

3. Lay the slices of cheese side by side on top of the dough.

4. Cover the cheese with the remaining phyllo dough. Make sure all the cheese is covered well! Also make sure the corners are covered too. Pat it down for an even look.

5. Bake it until the cheese melts and the top is a bit crunchy. Pour the cooled syrup on top. Don't put too much, some people don't like it dripping. You can always add extra syrup to individual pieces as they are being served.

6 If you like you can garnish each piece with sound ground raw pistachios.

Enjoy! good.gif

It really is easy to make...I made it a couple times then hatem brought 2 pans of it to his cousin's house...and left my pans. I ask for them back all the time but maybe theres something culturally wrong about wanting your stuff back because he hates that I want my pans back. So I have no knaffa pans and I just bought those to make this.
You know, H kept telling me that knaffa has to be flipped. and he did flip one of them. it didn't make a big difference, just got phyllo shredds all over the stove and floor. he seemed to think flipping was important.
It was a huge hit each time, tho.
amal
its funny to me the things they take so personally vs the things we think they should.... gotta love'em
♥J+I♥
To flip or not to flip,,,,,,that is the question. My personal trainer, JP, suggests not flipping, and the guy at the arab store said to flip. Unlike maglooba that must be flipped to expose the stuff on the bottom, I don't see the benefit of flipping kanafa. Looks like I will be making kanafa on Monday morning. I will post pics of this event.

RE: the pans you didn't get back??? If you buy more pans and want to send more kanafeh to the relatives (and don't want to lose said pans), maybe you can look for the aluminum foil pans in the grocery store and transfer the goodies before delivery??? Sure, hindsights 20/20.....
In a hundred years I wouldn't think some men would take my pans and keep them. Its okay though because I don't think I would send over more knaffa now if it was wrapped in newspaper. I'm having a nice lazy sunday so I'm not going to think about them anymore today. star_smile.gif

LOL, now the airlines are saying to put those carryon items in a ziploc bag
"Passengers traveling within the United States* may bring through the security checkpoint travel-size toiletries (3-ounce container or smaller) that fit in one, quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag (see an example at right). The bag must be completely closed/sealed and must be submitted for inspection separately from other carry-on baggage. "

Charles, you remind me of a guy I've known since he got back from Dessert Storm (used to go to church with him and now I work with him.) He carried everything in a ziploc for quite a few years after coming back from there. He's a neat freak anyway, so I'm sure the sand over there drove him nuts, and he was a helicopter pilot, so that probably stirred the dust up even more. He even carried his Bible to church in a ziploc! I was surprised when I realized he had finally stopped doing that because I honestly thought he would do it the rest of his life.
