When is Ramadan???????? It's almost 10 pm and I need to know if we wake up at 4:30am. If anyone has heard of the moonsighting, please post it.

Hey, this is a little late. My husband read that it was astronomically impossible to sight the moon in North America on Friday, so that Ramadan would start Sunday here. We're starting sunday inshaAllah.

Does that mean you start fasting Sunday, or Ramadan starts at sundown Sunday and you start fasting Monday? Said says they won't find out til tonite. I'm curious what the consensus is here.

Hehe, well, we're expecting to see the moon tonight (inshaAllah), which means fasting will start Sunday. But, we might not even see the moon until Sunday night.

It seems most mosques here started fasting today, but mine will start tomorrow, so at least there will be one eid prayer that we can attend. I don't think there ever has been a consensus on the start of Ramadan here in the US, and quite frankly, probably never will unless one muslim organization becomes overwhelmingly powerful and influencial. But, I think we're too diverse for that to happen.

Hicham started today, and Morocco starts tomorrow.

Do you know whats annoying? Drunk neighbors taking tequila shots all night and on top of that they keep saying "chug, chug, chug" for like an ounce of tequila! I wanna sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

I'm gone for a full day maybe a little longer...I see new posts here...anxiously open the thread...tumbleweeds.

Oh I don't have a dry date problem. Hatem's got a dry date problem. I offered to add water or syrup to them. I offered to steam them. He told me to leave them alone, so they are not my problem. works for me.

I can't say yet what is going on thursday. Hatem's brother is going back to CT on thursday, and I don't know yet when or how he gets to the airport...but I'm the one in the picture that doesn't work so... I will have to see. Could be a good thing. I figure an airport run may yield some unsupervised and unaccounted for time----yay!
Are we talking about some pre-sunrise coffee?? H leaves for work between 3 and 330 so I would totally be in if you are.

My Koran in english finally came from Jordan arrived in the mail yesterday. When I opened it up to look at it it was the back of the book then I realized you have to read it from the back to front like an arabic book. Which reminds me everytime my husband reads a newspaper here he starts from the last page

My mother in law also sent me another Jordanian Dress very pretty, it's white with peach and brown embroidery. I also got two scarves which are both white and one has these pretty brown and peach embroidery flowers on it and the white one has fringes at the end. Very nice!!

My husband also got his 2 kilos of arab coffee so now he's a happy camper. His mother also sent him these miswak chewing sticks, apparently you chew on them and it's suppose to help with the oral hygiene and prevent dental caries.

My mother in law knows another person coming to the usa so she asked us if we needed anything else hmm not sure what else since we got a lot already. Maybe some more coffee.

Ahhhhhhh very cool Angel... I love getting those packages ... I am lucky to get them from Algerie and also Hungaria... and always something special inside of them...that I cannot get in the USA.

yeah my husbands family made the mistake of asking him if we wanted anything...hehehe...there were quite a few things we wanted/needed that we can't find here. I got a kick out of the books too...I keep forgetting they open backwards so every time I go to read Quran, I have to turn the book every which way to open it with the words in the right direction hehehe.
We are heading to Columbia today to go to the arabian store to get some food we can't get here. It sucks that we have to drive almost 2 hours just to get jameed and other things of that sort...
Isn't there someone from this forum from Columbia??? I was thinkin there was but can't remember who......
