This sounds like an obvious question..

we are hoping to be married in new york city inshallah, and i was looking on their website and i saw that one of the requirements is that you have to have a social security number. Does that mean we have to apply for social security first before we get married? We were planning on going straight to NYC after picking up him from JFK and doing the marriage at a city hall, and then going for a small "honeymoon" trip... I hope this is going to be possible!

From everyone's experiences, what were your first steps after arriving here? How did the official marriage part play out??

That may be my next step once AP goes through and I suppose I should start doing some research on it as well. I believe I read somewhere about applying for SSN right away. I do not think you need to have it to get married- Check the resources here. You may also want to check to see if you can apply AND marry the same day at city hall.

Best of luck!

btw-planning to take my son to NYC for graduation. Any tips of where to go?
