I was just browsing the K1 forum for IMBRA news and a woman had suggested doing a protest- peaceful march at Capital Hill over all the BS us K Visa petitioners are going through. She pointed out that it did work well for other immigrants back in May. Also apparently this happened at the Texas service center years back and got some peitions moving. Its sounds kinda extreme but when I talk to the average American no one knows how us spouses actually have to wait just to have our significant other enter the country. I'm sure they don't realize as well that if you are engaged to someone you also have to wait for your wedding and if IMBRA is involved maybe cancel. Perhaps this sounds extreme but I'm tired of hearing about strengthing our border controls and amnesty for illegals when nothing is happening for those of us who are following Uncle Sam's guidelines. We are all diligent here and willing to go the extra mile so what could it hurt???????

I am on for it.
Even if everyone cant come we can ask everyone to send us their names addresses and signatures that we can submit to congress. We are law abiding, tax paying citizens. And this is an election year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This will work. I live 20 minutes away from Capitol Hill. Tell me what can I do??????????????????
WE MUST ACT FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ACT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess we should start sending PMs to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At least get the most number of signatures and take it to lawmakers.

Yes I live in VA so a drive is no big deal. People can also lobby outside of their local office and if we contact enough news and media then people will know about it. We should try to set a date and all of us come up with people to contact!!!! I'm not really sure how to contact everyone on this server etc. But lets figure something out b/c I feel like almost everyone is down to do this.
PS This does not include the many who don't have any idea that these websites exist and are completely in the dark.

I do believe something should be done, but I don't think we have enough people just from this site. I have no idea how many people there is on this site that are affected first, and then how many would show up. I think it would be a great idea if we had the numbers to attract the attention we deserve. You also don't want to pull this off and only have 30 people show up, and there reaction would be "Only 30 people turned out, we have nothing to worry about". I really don't know what we could do to really help our cause. Is any action going to make them work faster? Is any action going to repeal the new law?
I am just as frustrated as all of you. My fiancee should be having her interview this month, and we are back to square one. It is so frustrating, and has really caused a great deal of stress and sadness to all of us. I just wished we knew how long this will take. For those of you that have no word on your file, you have my deepest sympathy. I can't believe how pathetic our system is, and how they get away with it.
Good luck to all of us, and I hope things will get better for all of us.

Following that line of thought, maybe we could put up an online petition and forward it to senators, congressmen and whatever other auhtorities who should acknowledge what's been going on. This way, I guess we could gather a significant number of signatures, having not only petitioners affected by this sign it, but also other people who would be willing to help.

I just visited my congesswomans web site and found this. Maybe this is who we should be sending it on to. I think this is a great idea. We can all forward this to all of our friends and family members. I am sure we would get a bigger turn out for this.
Congressman Lamar Smith of Texas is the chairman of the House Judiciary's subcommittee on Immigration. His webpage includes some useful information about immigration issues before Congress. Testimony before the Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims is also available on-line.

We'd need volunteers to write the petition. We could use
http://www.writeboard.com/ this website so those willing to help could work on the same document before putting up the petition. I'd totally do it, but I guess I lack the knowledge needed for this job.

Create a well worded website, advertise it here, create some stories and have it dugg at digg.com and netscape.com, drive as much traffic to it so that those who don't know where else to turn and haven't found visajourney can find this website or the other one.
Then we can organize this protest.
I am in Philly area so it's a quick drive for me.
whats more, lets have an ongoing protest. Lets try to organize one in shifts so there is always an ammount of people there protesting in large numbers for the months extra it is taken for us to get our petitions through? I get 2 weeks vacation per year that I haven't used yet, and if this goes into October or November before I can ever expect to see my fiance here, I could do it for a full 2 weeks myself, and have vacation time back again the next year.

Online petitions mean nothing. Less than that even. It's a novelty that no one takes seriously.

Hello. I am the one who brought up the march in Washington. It seems like we have a lot of support here to do something, perhaps an online open letter, a petition, pics with a small story of our longing to be reuited with our loves, etc.
We are trying to figure out a way to brainstorm a plan of action. Stay tuned.
I am working on the letter and welcome feedback on that as well. I think if we put our collective minds, contacts, networks and voices, we can make an impact.

By the way all, I have set up the visaaction@gmail.com account to collect email addresses so we can determine how much support we have for either a real live march or a form letter to circulate via email.
Through that email account, I will establish a master list of all us interested in doing something and we can move forward from there.
So, make contact with visaaction@gmail.com so I can get you into the master list.

I think we should do a spam e-mail like they do with those chain e-mail's send to everyone on your list and ask everyone else to forward to the people on their lists.
Maybe that way it will be known whats about to happen.
How did the illegal's get their protest organized?
I know they used radio and tv but what othet methods can be used?

not to make anyone mad...this is just MY two cents... i am going through the exact same thing...
but what good will all these protests do??? really...what is that you are expecting to get out of it??
no matter how long you protest for they will not change the IMBRA Act, maybe try to make the rfe process go faster but that is about it.
i agree our Gov't f!ucked up....but it is just something that will just have to deal with...
so go to capitol hill...but i think it is just a big waste of time!
