Anyone that can tell me how long it took from the time of sending in the paperwork for the background check to getting the actual results back , that would be great? I haven't gone for my fingerprinting yet (YES we do have to get them at our local police station) and I'm just wondering about the time frame. Do you take the results with you to the interview or does the rcmp send them directly to the embassy? Thanks guys. helpsmilie.gif

do you have a criminal record? if not you don't need fingerprints. RCMP doesn't do the check it's a service they use. At least in Southern Ontario.

Well I looked on the RCMP website and it says you need to get fingerprints for a background check and it lists visas as one of the reasons you need it done. This isn't the first time I've heard about not needing fingerprints on here though. I'm so totally confused. The guides didn't say anything about the criminal background check that I recall so I'm up in arms over what to do here. I need to figure it out though because time is moving.

Hey... if time's moving, then why don't you get the check done now? The police check is good for one year in the eyes of the Consulate. I got my police check (no fingerprinting required) done with http://www.commissionaires.ca and got my results back the following week. In our packet 3, it's stated that we do NOT need fingerprinting unless we have a criminal conviction record.

And yes, you do need to bring the results to your interview. All the instructions are in your packet 3, which it looks like you haven't received yet.

Are you going through Montreal? If so, you have plenty of time. It'll be a couple of months before they'll schedule your interview.
