Hi,

Me and my fiance are in the process of getting all of the documents he's going to need for his interview together and I'm looking for some information about the police clearances that he needs. He's Italian, back in Italy now, but he was living in Vancouver, Canada for a little over a year attending school there. I went to the same school, that's how we met smile.gif

Anyway, I know he needs to get a police clearance from Canada, but the more I read the more confused I'm becoming. First, there are both the local police department, and an RCMP Detachment in Vancouver and I don't know which one we need to ask for this. Both have Police Clearance services it seems. Second, I can't find out if he needs to send his fingerprints or not! I read somewhere that a name based clearance was enough, what are others experience in this!?! Is there anyone here that has gotten a police clearance from Canada for someone outside of Canada? And if so, what was the process?

Thanks!

If he doesn't have a criminal record, then the name-based clearance is enough. If he has a criminal record then he'll need fingerprints.

He can go through either the Vancouver RCMP or the local detachment...in some cases depending whether the local detachment is RCMP or City based, the fee can be vastly different (RCMP = $20, my local police = $75)

The contact info for the main Vancouver RCMP detachment is as follows:

British Columbia

5255 Heather Street
Vancouver, British Columbia
V5Z 1K6
Fax: (604) 264-3357
Phone: (604) 264-3198

Best of luck! smile.gif

If he is applying from outside of Canada, he may need to get the fingerprinted version. If he is in Canada, then the name check will suffice. Check out the following site for more info:

Ceriserose gave you the phone number of the RCMP in BC. I suggest you give them a call to clarify things.
Good luck! smile.gif
