My husband received his British police certificate in the mail and has several cautions on it (4 or 5 I think) related to alcohol. The most recent one was last year. He doesn't have an "abuse" issue per se, meaning he isn't a drunk. On occassion, he would go out with his mates and get drunk and run into someone looking for a fight or what have you. Being intoxicated he just couldn't refuse (and I feel like I should kick him now). Anywho...long story short, he has been seeing a therapist and hasn't drank in some time. Would these cautions cause him to de denied? His therapist doesn't want to see him anymore because she considers him to be rehabilited but he enjoys talking with her so he still goes. But at each visit she attempts to get him to stop coming...weird relationship there...lol! Back on track...sorry...would having a letter from his therapist stating he is rehabilitated be helpful in not getting denied or will he still get denied and then have to submit a waiver.

He also has a conviction on his record from when he lived in Sweden. We have the police cert for that as well. It was assault and he spent 40 days of a 60 day sentence in a overnight prison (meaning he could check out during the day he just had to be back for nightly roll call and sleep there).

I've read all about the alcohol provisions and the conviction provisions in the regulations. I'm mainly looking for personal experience.

Thanks:)

There is a VJ member Marie620. Her English fiance had a DUI and he was denied at interview stage. If you do a search on her name you should find a few threads concerning her story.
Good luck

Thanks to all who submitted HELPFUL comments. We are looking into this. We figured he would most likely initially be denied and then we would have to submit a waiver (which we already have prepared). We just wanted to hear some personal experiences from others that may give us a better idea of what we are looking at.

Thanks again!

I was trying to find her posts yesterday, but there's a 6 month limit on the search feature at the moment. mad.gif I tried to find her in the members list but she doesn't seem to be there? unsure.gif

Worth pursuing, obviously, but maybe you already know the result in advance. There is a good chance he will be denied based on his use of alcoholic beverages in such a way that he has run-ins with the law. A therapist has no way of verifying that a patient has abstained from drinking. Perhaps the therapist is working with him on the causes of this kind of unhealthy behavior

Thanks...I found a few posts from her and what she said was her husband stated her consumed 20 pints per week when he went to the medical. I am sure this was an overstatement or maybe he was just being honest. My husband still drinks, but he does it very rarely and when he does, it's one or two. His therapist has helped him find why he does it and they were real about it. She told him alcohol abuse was not his main issue, it was a control issue with anger he's had so she helped him work through how to consume alcohol responsibly like most people. And he does. He's made great improvements and I'm so proud of him!

I submitted my question to Laurel Scott so I'll see what she says and post the response here should someone else have the same question in the future.

Thanks again!
