Full Version: Should there be an independent Palestinian state?
VisaJourney.com > General Discussion Area > General Polls

I know the borders can be debated endlessly - but for arguments sake, let's discuss only whether or not such a state should exist.
LuckyStrike
What about 'not sure'? Really though.. if you are 'not sure' then you have no business answering a poll. wink.gif
PSoft
Yes Palestine has full right to have independent state.
Number 6
Yes with clearly defined borders, although there may need to be some sort of power sharing situation in the disputed territories.

As I've said before Jerusalem should never have been given solely to the jews, it should have been made an international city, effectively its own state - as we have with the Vatican. No way in hell Israel would agree to that though...

Yes, I think Palestine should also have their own state with clearly defined borders, as erekose said.

Why can't BOTH Israel and Palestine exist? Does it have to be one or the other? Seems that way for some people...who don't want Israel to exist but do want Palestine to exist. wacko.gif

No. Israel got the west bank in war from Jordan, make Jordan take it back. The Gaza Strip was captured from Egypt, make Egypt take it back. No independent state for the Palestinians.

Anyone ever wonder why Egypt and Jordan want nothing more to do with those territories?

true...but amongst the 2 polls in the subject right now, only 1 out of 13 so far in this poll said no...on the Israel poll, there is much higher ratio of people saying no.

It will be interesting to see the ratio again after more votes get added.

The Israel poll in the early stages was about 50-50.

The other poll also said "Simply state whether or not you believe the nation as we know it today, has a right to exist.".

Some may believe Israel has a right to exist but not as it is today.

The poll on Palestine does not define borders.

Technically correct. I still like the idea of an independent West Bank and Gaza. But first, they have to stop electing and harboring terrorist groups like Hamas.

Please state what you disagree with and I would be happy to discuss it with you.

Briefly, an independent Transjordan (now Jordan) was created by the British in response to Arab outcry over the Balfour declaration (giving Israel all of what is Israel and Jordan aka Palestine) and defined as Palestinian lands East of the Jordan River. Within Israel, the UN wished to partition two states, one Arab and one Jewish. However, both Britain, which controlled Palestine, and all Arab nations disagreed and the Arab nations attacked Israel. Most Jews were thrilled with the UN plan, save a terrorist minority. In the ensuing war, the Arab nations lost much land their co-religionists would have held if peaceful support for resolution 181 had existed. Finally, TranJordan took the West Bank in the war and annexed it in 1950, justifying this as Jordan was a majority Palestinian nation and minority Hashemite (though the Hashemites hold power). It was only in 1988 that Jordan dropped claims to the West Bank.
