I need to find temporary health insurance for my fiance until my company will cover her. I checked out ehealthinsurance.com as some have suggested. I am only seeing plans that require the person to have lived in the U.S. for the previous 12 months.

Has anyone found basic temporary health insurance for their immigrant fiance or spouse??

Thanks,
Bill

Hey what a smart question and great idea. I am also going to check into this. I used temporary insurance myself in the past when I was traveling outside of the US through TravelGuard via my Teacher Identity Card. They may be one place to check into. If I find anything, I'll let you know!

Try www.temporaryinsurance.com. This is what I used when I need 'bridge' coverage when I switched jobs.

I see this thread is 2 years old, but for somebody stumbling across it, you can find insurance here:

I found a coverage that I like on this website, and it is probably the one I will end up choosing. Now I wonder when I should enroll, and when the plan should start since I don't know when I am going to fly to the USA. I know it will be around the end of June, beginning of August, but as long as I don't set that date, how can I tell them when to start?
What did you guys do?

I got travel insurance that would cover me for the first 24 or 48 hours of being in the States, and then set up a policy online, once I was here... we had to extend it, because my husband's work place was changing healthcare providers and couldn't add me for two weeks more than we'd thought, so we just got a new policy of the same thing, on the company's advice (it was way better than extending the one I had; you could only extend for a minimum of three months, for some weird reason) smile.gif

I had a Patriot America policy, from that American Visitor Insurance site, for what it's worth... we found it great value for money smile.gif
