laughing.gif Is this where you start calling everyone with children "breeders" and "moos"? Yawwwwn.

I really don't consider myself a "ChildFree personn" i'm just a personn that doesn't want kids and got sterilized because most of the people calling themselves CF are bitter souls!
Also their adoration for their pets is creeping me out, like they chose to have subsitute of kids blink.gif

I don't like kids, i don't hate them, i'm pretty indifferent to kids except the kids of the family.

Our first was a SURPRISE blush.gif. It happened while we were in the middle of the visa process. The biggest surprise was the myriad complications I had during my pregnancy with my daughter. I'm just very happy she is more healthy than mom!!! The next one, inchallah, will be planned and without complications. Hopefully, within the next two years...over 40 and preggers can be a challenge!!!

I am soo ready for kids I can't stand it...but hubby wants to wait and with good reason. He only just got here and we need to share eachother selfishly for at least two years....but darn it..I am READY

I spoke to a young woman of about 20 something the other day, she kept insisting how kids were great, so I asked her when was the last time you went out and partied til the next day? She said she couldn't because of kids.
I asked when was the last time you woke up and then spent the entire day fooling around with her boyfreind? She said the kids usually got her up in the morning.
I asked have you ever thought about just jetting off for the weekend to another part of the country or another country? She said if she travels the kids come with her and it all needs to be planned.

At this point I asked her why kids were so great, she told me because they're my kids, I told her well you enjoy your kids, I'll enjoy my time, money and freedom. She just sat there looking very much like she'd been 0wned and knew it.

What if you never did those things before you had kids in the first place? laughing.gif

Then you're obviously just boring and a life devoted to wiping your child(rens) arse would be ideal for you.

good.gif

There are ppl who don't actually think that life is all about party this, party that, ....maybe she wasn't looking '0wned' but the look was 'what a dick' .... ppl are different no??

Hmmm interesting topic.

My thoughts on children: If I find myself 30, still married, and and able to afford a foreign live-in au pair, then maybe I'll have 1 or at most 2. But probably 1.
Right now I have absolutely no interest in having children, but I'm young yet. I have zero baby fever and don't even like other people's children.
Actually I only like children 4 and up. Maybe we will adopt a 4-year-old. Or have one and then ship it off to my mother's house to raise until age 4. laughing.gif

Oh yeah, if you don't want kids, more power to ya. "most of the people calling themselves CF are bitter souls! " Truer words were never spoken--it's just funny to me that the "CFers" talk and talk about how because they don't have "crotchdroppings" and "sprogs" (just a few of the funnier ones) they have all of the time in the world to party all night and have sex all day... but yet they spend all of that time sitting on the internet and complaining about how they hate women who have children, women who want children, women who are pregnant, children, how women who are pregnant get designated spots at the front of some stores, women who feed their children in public, maternity leave and all that, etc. etc. etc. It's like they try to get as offended as possible so they can go home and gripe in an outrage about it on the internet. "Some duhhh MOO and her chyyyyyldrun looked at me today. OMG. I complained to the store manager and he kicked them out of the store for me." Bitter! It's just all laughable and endlessly entertaining to me.

But anyhow, for sure, if you don't want kids, there's no reason you should have kids. You know what you want (or didn't want) and that's that. Good for you for getting sterilized. And nobody should expect you have kids to or complain about it [my post was totally not directed at you, btw. I thought you sounded very rational and put together]. Similarly, the hardcore CF people who don't want kids shouldn't be sitting around all day crying about children... alas. They almost seem to thing that it's the only thing that defines them as a person. It's like a hobby.

"Also their adoration for their pets is creeping me out, like they chose to have subsitute of kids." lol. I have no kids and I have animals (but I'm not childfree or intend to be) and the other thing that made me laugh about ihatelj's post was that they were talking about how CF people can just up and away to whatever vacation spot they want at the drop of a dime. Well, what about the multitude of CFers who have pets? I don't have kids but you can bet that I'd have to arrange care for my cat, kitten, golden retriever, and chick if I wanted to flee the country at any random moment. The cats can fend for themselves with giant bowls of food and water but the dog has to be let out and the chick drinks and eats (and craps) like there's no tomorrow. Not so easy as it sounds then! I have many times thought about just continuing on the I-10W to San Diego from Phoenix and being at the beach in 6 hours, but then again I also have a fairly functional brain and animals that are my responsibility and bills to pay (apparently the hardcore CFers are all rich and can fly to Greece for the weekend though).

But anyhow, back to the topic at hand, my husband and I don't have kids, nor am I pregnant, but we hope to add to the overpopulation of the world any day now. yes.gif I am also graduating with my BSN in December, possibly heading into midwifery after that, and working on the labor and delivery floor this fall for my preceptorship (or working in the neonatal ICU) so I love being around moms and babies. I also really enjoyed reading this thread because of that. But I also love hearing other sane opinions on reproduction, too. tongue.gif

Erm, no

If you have kids, and you like 'em great! I just get really bored when people tell about their precious little ones, then tell you more and more and more, and....
I. Don't. Care.
It's only when people drone on about thier kids I like to play devil's advocate and make an argument against why kids are great.
More than any of that pisses me off though, is when people start going on about how they REALLY want one, as if it's another one of those items to procure through life like everyone else has, like a car or a house.
You know it happens; how many times you seen a woman looking at another womans child and come out with some thing like, "OOooooo/awwwww, I so want one!"

And in my experience I have actually managed both too....having kids isn't the end of life as we know it...just another dimension to it. ppl aren't 'boring' just because they choose to have children instead of a party lifestyle.

We definitely both want kids, but we're pretty young and totally not ready financially (I know , I know, you can never really be ready financially, but we are living in my parent's basement saving money for a house, I think that qualifies us as extremely UNready!)

I have told James I would like to have my kids before I turn 30 and he seems happy with that idea, so in a few years we'll revisit the issue.

Maybe, maybe not.

Possibly, but I'd like to decide that for myself first hand instead of being told about in a lengthy monologue.

I do; mainly I come here to see what my fiancee has to say... and to torment certain persons. wink.gif

Neither of us want children because we DO want to be able to do the things we want, when we want, and not only do we not have the desire to be parents, it's just not something I could safely do for medical reasons. We enjoy being auntie & uncle to our two adorable nieces. yes.gif

I have had baby fever from the get go!

He has a 16 year old from his previous marriage. I have none. We will be moving to California next month and finally settling down. I hope to be getting pregnant in due time.

Note I didn't say WE are hoping to get PG.

This might just be me, but...

How in the hell can WE get pregnant?

Unless he can carry a rugrat and push it out, WE don't get pregnant. We might concieve, we might be expecting a child, we might be having a baby but WE aren't PG. When I hear a man say this it makes me cringe even more...but that is just me

Ok, time for everyone to flame me

We have my daughter, who is 7, but we'd love to have one together. However, we plan on waiting a wee bit so we have time to be together just the three of us (and two of us on occasion) before embarking on the pregnancy journey. smile.gif

LOL!! I agree with you! laughing.gif The day when my fiance' develops the capacity to carry a human being in his body and then push it out of his nether regions is the day when WE can be pregnant. Until then, only *I* will be pregnant lol.

But I guess it's nicer/gentler than saying "I am pregnant and he got me that way."

We both want kids ... not yet though. We'd both like to finish school and we are both still young so we still have time but the issue has been talked about. We thinking bout just starting a plan by putting a little bit of money away every month so when we are ready at least we'd have some sort of cash waiting. smile.gif
