Hi All, I have a quick question.

My bf and I would like to eventually marry, but he is an illegal immigrant from Mexico and I want to make sure that we do everything correctly. He has been here in the U.S. for over 7 yrs. now and was previously married. He and his wife separated, but never divorced.

My question is this: Being that he was an illegal immigrant in the first place, is he really legally married?

He assumed that he was since they used his Mexican ID when applying for the marriage license, but now we both are not sure. Does anyone know?

Looking forward to reading your advice.

Immigration status has nothing to do with the legality of the marriage. Yes, he is married.

Go to that group and tell the story, especially about how he entered the US.

He needs to be legally divorced to benefit from his relationship with you. He IS legally married now.

This won't be quick, or cheap. Look at others' timelines at that group before you make any major decisions.
