I wouldn't mind a trip to Paris with hubby so I think you're a sweetie!

Have a great time!

I'm just sitting here bored tonight, wishing things would moooove faster!

In regards to changing names between USCIS and NVC I did it, my passport change of name was free in Australia as I've been married less than 12 months...

I don't believe it matters, imagine how many people do it mid process...

I'm going to supply copies of my old passport and new one so they can note my name change on both...

smile.gif

good luck!

Sorry...another question, did you change all your australian documents (driver license etc) to your new name as well?

GOOD NEWS!!! I was bored at work (I know, surprisingly, hehehe). Anywho, I was going through Igor's list of the top 10 people on the list. Some of them have already gotten their green card, and some of them have not logged on to VJ since 2008. So, I said all that to say this, you can take at least 10 off of your number list. I am sure their are more, I just haven't taken the time to review all of March and April filers. I am on overtime whistling.gif Maybe tomorrow during normal working hours innocent.gif
mrsemcee
Yeah my birth certificate, licence AND the rest, except passport were changed asap, then when lodging i130 I put a copy of my change of name document with it all and now I've got my new passport I'm going to puta copy of it, and the old named one in my next steps..... Once I finnnnnnaaaaallllly get noa2!!

Good luck smile.gif it should be ok. Imagine how many people do it.

K - that's great news!!!!!! I'm sooooooo anxious!
Twisted K
ok, through april, take off an additional 8 more couples. for a whopping total of drum roll, please...

EIGHTEEN!!! That is for those that have actually received their NOA2s just haven't updated cray5ol.gif

I did not count the ones that haven't been seen on VJ for months, so who knows if they were approved or not. I just had a strong feeling that people weren't updating their timelines like they should. help us who are months behind the current processing. give us hope, laughing.gif So with the definite 18, we just jumped on Igor's list. I did not go into May's good.gif

Hey Kaushalia,
I had a question. i havent changed my name to my married name yet. I got married in a foreign country and I am a US citizen. I have already filed the 130 using my maiden name and now waiting on the petition to be approved. Anyway is showing a marriage certificate enough to change my name at the social security office as well as the passport? I was wondering how you did it, because it seems like you got married in India.
I am really nervous I am gonna have problems with this, but I mean I didn't get married in the United States, and I didn't change my marital status, I was just waiting for husband to be here.

hey. yeah, i took the marriage license to the local ss office. they were unsure if it would work, seems like people in my hometown do not often marry in another country unsure.gif it was accepted there, and i received the new card within a week. from the ss office, i went to our dmv, with my marriage certificate and letter from the ssn office. received my license then and there. from the dmv i went to my bank, and showed them my new license. they updated everything, and i received my new debit card within 2 weeks (i actually received the wrong one first with my maiden name, called customer service, and received a corrected card in a couple of days). for utilities, satellite dish, etc, i just called them on the phone. did not need to show them proof. i also changed my name on my lease, since it was due right before i filed. i cheated and changed my name at work before i left for india so when i came back, i had a new name devil.gif sorry i gave you more info than you asked for. i was just on a roll laughing.gif

The passport form for changing your name is online. Depending on how old your passport is, it may cost you some money. I did everything through the mail and had my new passport (and the old one) back within about a month. I think it was $75 fee. Just make sure you copy your old passport before you send - just in case you need to prove your past travel.

It might just be due to a lack of updating - lots of people on vacation right now! Don't know about you folks but I've started getting some of the stuff I need together for the Affadavit of Support... (Just ordered Tax Transcripts). Getting pumped for an approval in the next month and change.

If your passport was issued less than a year old, you can change your name and get a new passport for free. I got my passport last August, and I got married this May in Hong Kong, changed name with no charge when I came back in June. I just mailed in the form and my old passport.

here's the link for more info: http://travel.state.gov/passport/fri/Chang...geName_851.html

No problem changing name on SSN or driver license neither

Finally see the Igor list...I'm 104 on it...hopefully it won't be too long until NOA2...I'm visiting my husband in Hong Kong again in November.

Good luck and best wishes every one!

Not many approved petitions this week, though, unless a lot of people don't update their timelines. Seems a lot of K1s were processed, though.

We moved to #87 on the list. C'mon man.... hurry up!!! LOL.

Your marriage certificate, as far as I know, should ALWAYS be in your maiden name.

As above, your marriage certificate should have your maiden name on it. Mine from Hong Kong only has my maiden name on it also. I just sent a copy in together with my old passport, and the form to get a new passport with my married last name. Social Security office actually asked how I would want my new name to be. I use my husband's last name as my new last name, and my maiden name as my new middle name as I don't have one before. I think that sometimes in America, they would ask you if you want to take your husband's last name when issuing your marriage certificate, and would note that on your certificate, but as it is not a custom to do so in Hong Kong, mine only has my maiden name and I have no problem changing my name in America afterward.

I just noticed that there are WAY less May petitions than there were for March and April. I realize that VJ is a small percentage of the petitions actually received, but.... good.gif I'm betting they chew through the May petitions quickly.

I spoke with another filer, who got the dreaded RFE because her birth certificate didn't contain the detail of parents & such. It's not a huge deal, but it did delay her, because now she has to write for another original.

I know I received several copies of my birth certificate and one does have my parents' details and one does not. The attorney who filed our petition made a point of choosing the one with the parents' names on it, so I guess maybe he knew that it could make a difference.

Just one more thing to worry about, eh?

Are you talking about the U.S. citizen's birth certificate or the beneficiary's? That's really annoying that they need the parents' name on it. They can be really confusing sometimes.

Just make sure you copy your old passport before you send - just in case you need to prove your past travel.

I got my passport in August 2008. Where is the form online? Can you send me the link. Thanks a lot!

Well what if my marriage certificate has my maiden name on it? I mean when I got married my last name was still my maiden's. I don't know if this will cause a problem or not. Does the marriage certificate need to have the new name or the maiden name on it.
Thanks!

Thanks for answering. Mine has my maiden name on it. I also don't have a form saying my maiden name and my new name. But hopefully it will be ok.
Thanks everyone for your help. Good luck.

For vaccinations check your local US embassy site. Your husband needs Original docs, once your case will forward to NVC. You will be able to get back your original AT INTERVIEW TIME...

Thanks Kaushalia! Geez, this depression is killing me even while im at work! I know its not good but i can't help it. I really hope it will work out so soon!

Metro, I know it's hard. People don't realize the emotional and financial struggle associated with all the waiting. Everything is magnified. When most people have a bad day at work, they can go home and vent to their spouses. We have nobody. So it all builds up until it reaches a breaking point, which is where you are.

All I can suggest to you is look backwards. Five months have passed rather quickly, have they not? Now picture 5 months from now. star_smile.gif You can do it. Just hang on. Five months will make a huge difference!

Hugs,
Julie
