Okay....this may be a stupid question but what does "touched" mean when in someone's timeline and how does someone know the file has been "touched"--do you get a notice, an email, what?

Good Question..... I wish I knew that answer cos I was wondering the same thing.

I wondered the same things when I first joined this site and hope my explanation helps clear things up..

Touched means when you register your case online (you can only do this once your have recieved your NOA1 because your petitions are then assigned a receipt number for I-130 and I-129f) After about a week or so after you receive your NOA1 via regular postal mail, the USCIS will have your case information online and it will get "touched" under the area where it says, "LAST UPDATE" where you will see that the date has changes periodically..This means that someone is working on your case..

Here is what another VJ member name sugarcane also wrote in response to another member who asked this very same question:

First, you need to keep track of the date your case was Last Updated. Then you need to keep track of the Current Status: message. If the date of the last update changes, and the status message remains the same, your case has been "touched".

Thanks to all for the replies...now I get it. I didn't even realize that if I logged in to my USCIS account that I could see a date that would update. I was touched on 05/01/06, two weeks approximately after the receipt of my petition but otherwise it seems nothing has been done. Let's hope more happens soon. It stinks waiting for so long and hearing nothing. However, I know our 3 months of waiting is nothing compared to most.

I doubt that such activity would generate a 'touch', much as I doubt that a 'touch' necessarily means that someone is working on a case. A 'touch' might also mean that the case has been set aside for one reason or another.

Which of us is posting the sarcastic comments?
