I just thought I'd share with our VJ family that we had his green card interview yesterday. It seemed to go just fine. I'll post details in the AOS section, but wanted to let everyone know that it went smoothly and we expect the card soon.

Yeah, I am looking forward to a break, but you know what, I don't think there will be much of a break. She said that you can apply 3 months before your 2 year anniversary. That is in just 3 months that we can apply so It will be almost like no break at all. I just can't wait until the 10 year when we will be free from keeping everything and worrying about how we do everything. Being free of the government will be nice (well, we'll never be free, but we can pretend at least).

Congrats on your interview approval, I'm hoping that your just as happy as the day your married him.

Mandolinv,
What do u mean 3 months b4 ur second anniversary and u stated that is within the next 3months. Im no expert here, but I think that when the CO said 3 months b4 ur second anniversary, it meant to have the I-751 sent (lift conditions) at least 90 days before the day you got ur AOS approval. I think you said you got married in 12/04. If you would have filed your AOS after 12/06; you would have met the 2 year marriage rule and your hubby could have received the 10yr green card. Anyway, congrats to you both.
Michele

Just to add:
If you got approved for AOS on June 26, 2006; that means you have until March 26, 2008 to file I-751(lift conditions) for 10yr green card. Actually, the paper work has to be received by March 26, 2008 (which is 90days b4 2nd anniversary of green card approval).

I hope this clarifies things for you.

I don't know what all is correct or not, but what the officer said was that 3 months before our 2 year wedding anniversary we could file to lift conditions. We got married 12/28/04 so that would be 9/28/06 ( in just 3 months). We hadn't been married for 2 years at the time of your AOS so we got the 2 year conditional. I don't know if she is correct in what she said or not, but that is what she said. Thanks everyone for your well wishes.

I really think you were misinformed about the lifting conditions. It should be done 1 year and 9 months from the date on your green card. I took the following from the USCIS webpage:

You and your spouse must apply together to remove the conditions on your residence. You should apply during the 90 days before your second anniversary as a conditional resident. The expiration date on your alien registration card (commonly know as green card) is also the date of your second anniversary as a conditional resident. If you do not apply to remove the conditions in time, you could lose your conditional resident status and be removed from the country.

If you need further clarification youm ight want to make an INFOPASS appointment. I would hate to see you lose money on an application.

Best wishes. Kia
