I'm helping Maria with the DS-230, DS-156, and DS-156K.

There're questions we have about some of the entries and the VJ examples do not answer them.

For example, do they really want the info of an ex on DS-156?
She's going to quit work because she's got a lot of family and personal stuff to take care of before leaving. What do you put for employment?
What do Russian ladies put for Middle Name as in Passport? I'm looking at it and see just the first name in English and the typical father's last name variation in the Cyrillic Middle Name.

The DS-156 and DS-156K per the Moscow web site are to be filled out in Russian.
Only the DS-156 is in Cyrillic Russian.
What does the US Embassy REALLY want? Just the 156 that's already in Cyrillic filled out in Russian? Or do they also want the 156K also written in the native script/print?

The DS-230 asks for Spouse and doesn't like the 156 request spouse if divorced.
Since it appears each form asks for the same info and one clarifies it to include something that's not true [if you're not married you don't have a spouse so giving an ex isn't a spouse], what does DS-230 really want??

I wish I could help you here, but my fiancee got these forms in her "packet" from the Embassy and filled them all out by herself. I don't even know if they were in English or Russian! Apparently she didn't have any problems because she didn't ask for my help, and she was approved at her interview.

Ensure that whatever you wrote on the G-325A and the I-129F match what you're (or she's) now putting on the DS-156. If her middle name was the patronymic form of father's name, put that down now too.

I know when I was talking with Elena about what she was putting down on her forms, she listed her patronymic in Russian, then in English where required any time the middle name was needed.

(As far as how she actually filled out the DS-156 and DS-156K, I'm not really sure... she told me there was a difference in some of the translations, and checked with me to make sure the English forms were saying the same things as the Russian ones... (she wanted to make sure the translations were "exactly" like the other ones) and asked "what about this question... what about that question...?" But as far as actually filling it out in Russian or English, I don't know. I do remember her asking me about the "native alphabet" parts, and that's when she used Russian. I guess she did the rest in English then.)
