Hello all. I've read the IMBRA law and it's exceptions and what others have written here but havent gotten any clear cut info as to whether Match.com is considered a Marriage Broker. I've read the RFE that someone received and scanned and it mentions the law but not its exceptions, How do we answer such a question as to whether we used one or not? Has anyone who uses an immigration lawyer received any written confirmation of this. Someone said their lawyer said Yahoo personals doees not qualify as a MB.

I know Vermont has my petition, its just a matter of time before I get my RFE and I want to fill it out and send it back ASAP but want there to be no discrepancies about the MB question. If we dont get a clear cut answer what do you think about checking "no" and including a detailed explanation as to why something like Match or YP should not be considered a MB, but disclosing which one may have been used

(cool.gif EXCEPTIONS.—Such term does not include—
(i) a traditional matchmaking organization of a
cultural or religious nature that operates on a nonprofit
basis and otherwise operates in compliance with the
laws of the countries in which it operates, including
the laws of the United States; or

(ii) an entity that provides dating services if its
principal business is not to provide international dating
services between United States citizens or United
States residents and foreign nationals and it charges
comparable rates and offers comparable services to
all individuals it serves regardless of the individual’s
gender or country of citizenship.

Match.com does not solely target USC so would not be classed as a marriage broker.

I am in the same boat w/ mate1.com. Vermont has my petition sent back from Manila and I too am waiting for my RFE. I think it depends on whether the dating website charges a fee or not. This is confusing wacko.gif
