Ya Scandinavian winters can be pretty depressing sometimes: cold and dark. Summers on the other hand are awesome
If you don't mind the mosquitos that is...
I've seen quite a few Scandinavians on VJ but maybe they just don't read this particular forum?

I live near the great lakes. We have tons of mosquitoes here too. I love that the summers in Sweden are mild and not sweltering hot. And daylight at midnight was awesome. Sometimes I really wish I could just move there. My husband doesnt have any real desire to live in the US, only to be reunited with my and my kids.

Feb 5 2006, 06:11 PM
Well maybe you guys could think about moving to Sweden later? Have your kids been there to see what it's like? There are quite a few American women's clubs in different cities in Sweden so it'd probably be pretty easy to ask for advice and support? MistyB didn't like living in Sweden but I'm sure there are some positive experiences too.

Once my kids are older that is the plan actually. I have shared custody of my daughter so leaving the country right now is not an option for me.

Hello everyone,
I'm new in this forum, but thought I would drop by and say hello, you're not alone from Scandinavia! I'm Swedish living in Norway, hoping to go to the US this year.
We haven't started any process yet, so no time line. At the moment we are researching the smoothest and fastest path, reading VJ has been a great help!
About the winters in Norway; I do agree, dark, cold and sometimes depressing, but the sun has turned and I can already sense that the spring is getting closer.

It's almost daylight when I go to work in the mornings!

Norway is beautiful! My husband and I drove from Stockholm to Bergen. I got some really breathtaking pictures on that trip. I look forward to going back there soon. A friend of mine will be getting married so I will go there at that time.

Hi there Susannah
Welcome aboard
How did you end up in Norway? Where in the US will you be moving?
Susannah
Feb 14 2006, 09:23 AM
Hello,
I ended up in Norway because my parents moved her, my dad got a job here and we were going to stay for 3-4 years... Never moved back, any of us. I was only a kid, so even if I'm "bilingual" and speak both languages (yes, I know they are very similar, but there are big differences also!), I'm more of a Norwegian and haven't wished to move back to Sweden. Guess that makes me a successfully integrated immigrant.
I'm living in Bergen now, meddykomp! And yes, I do agree, Norway has it's very own beauty, expecially the west coast and northern parts.
But there are many beautiful parts in the US as well, and so many different ones. I explored some parts of the west coast this fall and I liked the area; many scenic spots in Washington, Oregon and California. I'll try to move to California, San Francisco Bay Area. Something quite different from the arctic circle!

I hope for your sake that your immigration journey has you in the US by the time my friend gets married, but if not maybe we can meet when I go back there. I really think it would be neat to meet someone from VJ in person. I know a little norwegian ... more than I know swedish, but that is because I have known my Norwegian friends a lot longer than I have known my husband. Hopefully someday I am fluent in both.

Hey, it would be great to meet in Bergen, meddykomp! When is the wedding? We have not set the finale schedule yet but are getting close. This planning involving two continents and two busy professionals with tight schedules is kind of demanding...
We hope that we can do the DCF, it seems like the most efficient way for us and the officers at the US embassy in Oslo have so far appeared to be friendly, helpful and flexible. I hope that we'll be done with the immigration process in May/June this year. Optimistic? Yes, as this involves at least two overseas trips; one to get married and one for the embassy interview! But it's all possible!
I guess I'm lucky living in a country with the DCF opportunity; where a non-resident USC can file the petition at the embassy. I hope to avoid using the Service Center in California as it seems like it is processing slowly right now.
You live in Ohio? I spent one year there, a very long time ago, in the Dayton area!
meddykomp
Feb 15 2006, 02:12 PM
Very small world that we seem to cross paths so closely. I live a couple hours north of Dayton. The wedding was originally scheduled for this September, though it seems they may be putting it off. Either way, the next time I visit Sweden I will most likely also visit Bergen.

Feb 17 2006, 10:54 AM
Kind of fun with those paths?!
I met my boyfriend in Ohio, long time ago. Years before internet was an option. After i had left the US we stayed in touch for some years, but then we lost the connection. Reconnected in November 2004 and we got along even better now than when we were 18... Nice to get a second chance by fate! So paths can take many unexpected and pleasant turns...
September? Yes, I hope I'm in the US by then!

Hello and welcome, Pauliina!
Haven't been here for a long time, sorry! I've been busy with big things in my life - I went to California at Easter and got married!

Now we're starting the immigration process... So far it looks good as we're filing DCF at the Embassy in Oslo and the Visa Immigrant Section has been nothing but helpful and service minded! I hope it will stay that way...

Only dropping by to say hi! Want to tell everyone that we got our interview date settled.

We could probably have gotten an earlier date, but it all has to be organized with my husband's work, vacation and travel to Norway, and my work and vacation. Anyways, I'm so happy that we had the opportunity to chose the dcf route, it seems so much more easy to follow up and deal with.
How is your Swedish coming, Meddycomp? It's not a big deal to know the Scandinavian languages to move here, everyone can speak English, more or less... But if you're planning to stay in Sweden for a while it's a good idea to learn the language, it's nice to be able to read the news papers, watch tv etc.

Jag förstår lite svenska. I should stress the lite part, but I am working on it. When we move there I will take classes for sure. I do understand a little bit more when I hear it than what I can type.
My husbands interview is in 2 days and I am so nervous. There are so few people from Scandinavian countries that finding out what kind of questions they ask at the embassies doesnt bring about much results. Hopefully on Monday morning I cal log in and tell everyone that he is getting his visa and coming home.

Just checking to see how everyone is doing. We have not yet filed for AOS as we are trying to time things so that Magnus' adjustment is AFTER our 2nd wedding anniversary so that there are no conditions. We are planning a trip to Sweden in April so our current task is to get passports for my kids so that they can go too.

Hi here from Denmark
I am engaged with an american and are going to live in South of California when I get my visa.
It's a real rough case we are going through. We started back in june 2005 and still not done with the case.
Emotional it makes us to nervous wrecks and need an answer very soon.
I was hoping for good news before christmas, but realize that this have to be today.
We haven't seen eachother since last christmas here in Denmark.
So a kind of hardbroken to go through those holydays without eachother.
Our case is in London and still pending.

Hi Sandan
Thank you very much for your welcome message.
And Merry Christmas.
I still wonder if I am the only Danish person who found this VJ site.
I haven't met any yet.
Maybe I am the only lucky Danish one who met a beatyful American
But at least it's funny to meet other people from Scandinavia in here.
I would love to share my stories with you all.
