I answer all my phone calls at home, but I don't pick up my cell phone if I don't recognize the number. I get a lot of professional calls and usually I'm too busy to take them, so I let them go to voicemail and call back.
Although apparently the person who lived in my apartment three apartments ago (the one I lived in from 2002-2004) after me was a real deadbeat because somehow credit agencies got my phone number (which is the same number I had when I lived there) and they call me looking for her *all the time*. And since it's legal to start calling at 8 am in New Jersey, and I now live in New Mexico, that means my home phone* often starts ringing at 6 am. But I figure it's better to answer and tell them it's not me than ignore it. Usually one creditor will call three or four days in a row before they finally take my word that it's not me.
*I have Vonage, so I've had the same phone number for 4 years despite moving cross-country. I have a dummy phone number that's local here in ABQ, but obviously the New Jersey number still works.

I just use my cell phone too. I hate it though; I feel like I'm too available. I often ignore calls and figure if it's important enough, people will leave a voicemail....

Answering machine at home. Yes I screen my calls. Caller ID on my cell phone. Yes I screen my calls. If I don't know you... I'm not talking to you!

I don't have Caller ID on my home phone so I just answer it but if a number comes up on my mobile that I don't know I don't take it.....I only give out my mobile number to those I want to have it.

After talking to patients on the phone all day long, the last thing I want to do when I get home is talk on the phone. I do screen my calls, but I'm just way too busy in the evenings to chat on the phone more.

I am not a phone person. I usually answer when i'm close to the phone. If i'm trying to take a nap i ignore it, let the machine answer and if i like the person i can call back

I screen every call. There are too many chronic, compulsive gossipers and complainers in my life. I just can't bear to be on the phone some days.
Sorry edited double post.

Yep, caller ID at home, dont know how I lived without it. Screen all calls, apart from when it double rings....that's England calling and I always want to talk to them

Dont always want to talk to mother-in-law or 24 Hour Fitness who keep calling to try to sign me up to their fantastic new facility at 80th & Cass, I told them no several times, but they dont give up! Guess have to give them credit for persistence.

I work at a rehab facility during the summer on an "as needed" basis. Unfortunately they "need" me quite often! . I don't want to work THAT much during the summer, so I screen my calls for that reason

we just have cell phones - no land lines...but that being said.
I will pick up most the time unless I know it's someone I don't want to talk to. If I don't know the number, I still pick up because I'm too curious not too

I HAVE to know who it is...
That because my cell phone never gets called by soliciters.

I decided years ago that there were many things that I *had* to do in life...and that being a slave to a ringing phone wasn't one of them. I will let it ring, go to voicemail and pick up the message "whenever". I'll call back "whenever".
I'm slowly getting CAPS around to my way of thinking.

When I was still living in Canada I actually would have my ringer off too.

We just use cell phones too. "I just don't feel like talking on the phone sometimes" is why I don't always answer. Also, if I don't recognize the number I don't answer it and let it go to voicemail. If they don't leave a voicemail then I guess it's not important anyway!

Sometimes I don't answer calls from people I know if I don't feel like talking on the phone at the moment. Especially if it's someone who I know will talk for a full hour on the phone.

Usually about nothing too! If it's my family I always pick it up though.
I don't really like talking on the phone. The longest amounts of time I was on the phone would be when Sujeet was still in India.

We use the cell phone more than anything....but I have a landline for DSL service. Occasionally we use the landline to call his parents but the cell has caller id...some people I just dont want to talk to.

I have caller ID and answering machine, since one of my friends refuse to leave a message I check caller ID.
Out of 10 calls a day at least 9 are credit card companies trying to give me another card, sell me satillite TV, or some other "CHOP$U*k thing."

I have two phone lines.
One has no phone on it and it's the one I give to people :-o
I don't like to speak on the phone, I just use it for my needs (buying things, booking flights, professional calls etc etc)
I "lost" lots of friends becaus they loooooove to talk on the phone way too much for me, i'm a loner I guess.
