Can you file a DCF in Dominican Republic? If so, does the US Citizen have to be a Resident in Dominican Republic? Or can you file the DCF residing in USA? helpsmilie.gif

User twincactus is the resident DR pro--he reports that not only does the USC need to be resident there, the waiting list for an Immigrant visa interview is pushing a year these days...

I don't think DCf in Dominican Republic is a viable option for someone who is not normally resident there.

No, no0pb.gif you can't file DCF residing in USA. Direct Consular Filing means the US citizen sponsor directly filing the I-130 at the Consulate/DHS in their spouse's country, not the US. Usually the US citizen sponsor has to be a resident in that country but there are some countries where residency is not required. E.g. Australia, New Zealand

Meauxna is correct. You would have had to be a resident to file DCF and it's a moot point because they have suspended DCF filing with the huge backlog they have down there. It took me 20 months to get my wife here and I would guess it should be around 2 years now to complete the process whether K1 or CR1 it doesn't matter, it's about the same.
