Full Version: What would you do if you found a kitty in the street?

I found a cat today... or rather, it found me... and now I'm not at all sure what to do with it! I'd LIKE to keep it, but my other two cats are miserable about the idea - they've been fighting each other all afternoon because they're so upset about having an interloper in the house! Now I don't know what to do sad.gif

If I see a kitten while I'm walking, I will ignore it. Not because it probably belongs to someone else, but because it's a kitten. I don't like animals.

I therefore voted Other.

I put other just because I would probably do a combination, if it has a collar try to locate the owner/see if it has a chip implant. If no collar then probably keep it around my house and post signs and take it to a no kill shelter as last resort if I can't keep it/find the owner.
SanDan
I'd take it home and put up "Cat found" posters/posted on a local missing pets found website. If no one came to get the cat and my kitty would get along with the newcomer I'd keep it (it often takes some time for cats to get used to one another...depends on the situation). If not I'd take it to a nice animal shelter where they could find a good home for it.

Not quite sure what I would do to be honest, Jon doesnt like cats, we are going to get a dog at some point, I dont like people being nasty to animals, so if no one owned up to owning it I would probably take it to a shelter.

I guess I'm too tenderhearted...I would take it home. I would try and find a home, but I wouldn't be disappointed if I wasn't able to smile.gif

I ticked other for 2 reasons the first being I am allergic to cats so I would sneeze loads and 2 because my dog would probably try to eat it if i took it home

Take it to a shelter if i dont know who it belongs to
nayalamb
jig is allergic to cats as well... we tried having one before but it didn't work out... so i'd have to keep walking or maybe note the location and call animal control on the cell phone.

I'd say hello.

However, if it was a dog and a busy street, then I would grab the dog and knock on doors. I did this about 2 months ago, some dog was wandering around a house on an insanely busy street, and so I parked, ran over, and knocked on the door. The person was sooo thankful, they had no idea how it got out and I like to think I saved it's life. It was a good dog. I totally would've kept it so it could teach my dog some manners!

Ok everyone. I do love cat and I had 4 of them but I have to wonder who had the idea to put that sign on the road it is a old picture..
lostinlove228

I voted 'take it to a shelter'......the last kitten I picked up off the street cost me $800 (eq.pounds) ring worm and it died while it was costing me $800..........

The last kitten I found wandering around I picked up, drove home and got a shoe box, then took it to my VFW post, I set it on the bar and said I found someones kitten wandering around the parking lot. No one claimed it so an old lady took it home. smile.gif

good man
Ron/Sharon
Over a month ago Sharon found a tiny kitten on her porch, there is no way it could have gotten there itself so she gave it a home since it was a gift. Now she has a playfull x ounce ball of fur that is quite distructive that loves chasing the curser as she types.

I'd take the poor wee thing home and put up posters saying i'd found it......if nobody claimed it....i'd take it to the vet to be checked out then i'd keep the kitty myself.

My 1 yr old female would appreciate a play buddy, would give her someone to chase around the house rather than sit and look out the window all day looking bored! smile.gif
Queen Jenn
I'd love to take it home, but I already have two cats and a dog, so no more pets for me. I'd take it to one of those "no kill" shelters. Unless it had a collar and I could call the owner.

A few weeks ago I found a lost dog. I just stayed with it and called the number on it's tags. Owner came and took it home.
