Hi everyone,
I am doing ok, our little one is doing ok... I will go back to work on Aug 23rd, I am suffering so much about it!! But you have to do what you have to do, right?? :S
My mom left on the 27th, so it has been a huge adjustment, when she came, she took over the whole house and the baby... I dont know how she did it!! I miss her sooo much. I am hoping I will be able to go to Peru next February... Im a little bit worried about taking such a long trip with the baby though.
MandR... I am sure Rossy will have a great time with her family in Peru... she will be spoiled rotten!!! I hope her mom can get the visa and be able to come when the baby arrives, it will make a huge difference for her.
Vi, Im so happy your sister is here and that you were able to take time off... make sure you enjoy it!!!
Better go feed little Christopher!!

Can you believe he looks just like his dad and nothing like me?? That seems amazing to me, specially since(in theory) I have the strongest genes... like dark hair, dark eyes, darker skin... but this little guy has light brown hair, very light skin and it seems he is going to keep the blue eyes he's got!!

Thank you!! I am surviving, that is as much as I can say, I had to go back to the doctor yesterday and some of the stitches are still giving me problems and PAIN!! I know some of you might disagree, but I am very dissapointed with the healthcare provided here in the U. States...
By the way, who has the hi5? Mine is

Hola a todos!
MandyR, how funny, we've decided that if we have a baby boy we will name him Sebastian, I love that name, and if it's a girl is going to be Sofia. Let me know if you come to NYC.
Melissa, I always check my hi5 and I have to say that your baby is the cutest little thing, and you are right, looks just like daddy.
Tracy, how did your hubby enjoy his trip to Peru and how is his brother doing?

Hey Vi...unfortunately, my husband's trip to Peru was more business than pleasure, but he DID get a lot of eating done! He gained 15 pounds

And his brother is having some setbacks that make the progress of his treatments very slow. But there is a little progress, so that is the good news.
Thanks for asking

Hi,
My mom got a tourist visa on 2005, that was the first time she came to the us... they asked her where I was living, when I moved here and if she had any other daughters/sons besides me... they looked at her pay stubs and that was it.
Is your mom coming for the delivery? Does she have a visa already?
How is the pregnancy going??

Hi Melissa
Thanks for getting back to us.....
Rossy is actually in Lima for a weeks rest and buying baby clothes. It will be her last time there before the baby arrives until we all go for Christmas next year.
The pregnancy is going just great........amazing to feel him moving around and at times alot.
Rossy's Mom is coming for the delivery. She has never applied for a tourist visa before. She is retired, receives the retirement that the government gives, owns her own condo/apartment and has some monies in the bank. So I hope that will be enough evidence for them to see that she will return to Peru.
They are both so nervous that she will not get it and not be here for the delivery.......
I hope you are all doing well and that you have recovered from all that you went through

Hi guys!
MandyR you asked about the visa process for parents, my parents got their Visas last year, they told me that was pretty easy but they got a little nervous. They brought as many documents as they could but the guy who interviewd them checked just the letters from my parents jobs and an invitation letter that me and my husband sent. Some people told me not to do that but we went for it anyway and according to my mom that helped alot.
My parents got 10 year Visas and my brother and sister 5years (they are students).

Out next step in the ongoing process is filing for the I-751 removal in March '08. Just hope they move along with that process as our entire family are booked and paid for a weeks cruise in July '08 and Rossy's card expires in June '08

It's a boy (Sebastien) and the due date is December 23rd. All 16 members of my family including what will be the little
6 month old are doing the Eastern Caribbean (San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Maarten). I can just imagine all that we have to pack for the little guy for a weeks cruise..... but I know that between 2 sister-in-laws and a sister they will all help.

It's great that your sister was here spending quality time with you and that you have a sister, that from what you say is like a twin. Even though you are sad at least you know that you can visit her and she can visit you without issues.

Thanks MandyR
As I said before I'm very close to my sister and we look alot alike, she's my little sister (23) and I feel that since I moved to this country we became even closer. I know that I can go to visit her and my family whenever I want but it's not really that easy, I have some responsabilities now, a husband to take care of and a job plus next year he wants to go on a 'REAL VACATION" as he says, I undestand that he had been to my country 13 times (too many??) but family is family and I won't change that for 1 year travelling the world (exagerating a lil' bit)
I'm sure you will have plenty of help during the cruise, my in laws are going on a cruise to Canada next week (I can't wait

)

I'm a little bit sad 'cause my little sister left last saturday, you know how sad is to say good bye, I cried all saturday, we really miss her at home I got so used to have her here with me. She had a great time in NYC but she said that she can't see herself moving to the States, it's too diferent to Peru.
My hubby sees me really depressed and he says that I should go back to visit my family for a month so I can recharge my batteries, I found an awesome price $463!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! round trip and all the fees included via Lacsa, with a few stops but I don't care, I need some family time

the only problem is that my green card expired on July 3rd and I still waiting for my 10 year green card, it can take up to a year

, of course I can't leave without being sure that I can come back to the States.

I've read through some of the posts on this thread and they've got me a little worried about how my wife will feel after moving to the US.

I tell her that I expect she'll miss her family a lot and that she may be depressed from time to time, but she reassures me every time I bring it up that she'll be just fine and that she's extremely excited to be able to spend every day with me very soon. For those of you originally from Lima and now living in the States, how did you feel before moving here and how has the process of adjusting gone since you arrived here?

Well to be honest I used to say that to my hubby too, that everything was going to be alright but the 1st year was very hard for me, I come from a a very big, close family and I miss every moment with them but my husband was EXTREMELY patient with me. As Veroka said, wasn't until I got a new job, made new friends and started making my own money that I started feeling much better.
Good luck in your journey.
By the way, VEROKA how's everything?? we haven't heard from you for a long time, how was the trip tp Canada?
Hugs for everybody

Thanks for the help and advice Veroka and Vi.

We are going to spend every possible second that we can with each other. Also, my sister (a single mom) has an 18-month-old boy and a 5-month-old girl. Erika says she is extremely excited about helping my sister take care of them. I imagine that should help until she can get a job. I know we'll be really busy for a while introducing her to her new friends and second family, taking an occasional road trip, etc.
Do you suggest anything else to make the transition easier?
I'm also wondering about the winters here...she thinks that it's bitter cold when the temperature in Lima is in the mid-50's

I can't imagine how she'll react to the cold winters here. I keep telling her that she's going to hate the winter weather but she always says that she'll be fine as long as I'm there to keep her warm

Hello Vi & the rest of the VJs members
I have been busy but I always try to be here and read their new posts
Everything in Ohio is good. Our trip to Canada was great, I will never forgot those moments we spent there.
My fav. places were Niagara falls... It's a romantic place specially at night
I also enjoyed being in an island north of Toronto, where everything was calm and nice.

I know that some banks will give you a secured credit card. You open up an account with about $500.00 and you get a credit card with $500.00 credit limit on that account. You use the credit card and pay back each month. This is one way to build credit.
The other is to try to open a Sears, Macy's or JC Penny credit card, but you have a 50/50 shot at getting one of these credit cards.

Hola,
I work with credit every day. Get online and check out Capital One Bank for a secured credit card and also Orchard Bank. Send in $200 to $300 to each and they will send you a card and will start reporting to the 3 credit reporting agencies. After several months go try and get a department store card. J.C. Penney is good for establishing credit. Then you will be on your way. Good luck.

Well, yesterday I went to Commerce bank and they were giving me some problems because my Green Card expired and I'm waiting for the new one, I brought my extension letter but that didn't help, so I got annoyed and went to Washington Mutual and opened a new checking account, I asked for a Credit car and they offered me the Secured card MandyR mentioned, I'm willing to do that, I'm thinking in going today and apply for one. Question, If I put down $500 am I going to get my money back sometime in the future? I know I should asked this yesterday at the bank.

Good morning everybody
Good news, I opened a new checking account at Washington Mutual and got approved for a Secured Credit card, I think that's the easiest way. I put down $300 and in about 10 days I'll be getting a new Master Card credit card. I thought that they were going to keep my $300 but they explained me that after a few months I can show the records of all the payments I make and they can approve me for a real credit card.
Thanks everybody for sharing your experiences with me
Have a great day
