Veroka,

Delia and I can't get to Peru until May and we need some Peruvian food. We are going to be in Columbus next weekend and we want to go to Garcia's or Restaurante LA GUADALUPANA. La Guadalupana seems to have a better menu. We are really looking for a good pollo a la brasa preferably cooked over lena.

Also, would you have any recomendation on a good place to go dancing to latin music?

Thanks for all your help
Andy

Hola Vi
the trip was excelent !!!
I was so happy being back after 1 year. there are new things (stores, buildings, .. the airport looks kinda different too)
We went to Ica, huacachina oasis, Paracas reserve, ballestas island, Nasca lines.
and in Lima I met my family and some friends like Oly who was there w/her husband.
We also bought some souvenirs like retablo, lienzo that is on my wall now biggrin.gif . I thought they will charge us more because of jeff but if You look well, You can find for less
If you or anyone wanna see pic of Lima, e-mail me and I will let you see my yahoo photos yes.gif

That's cool that you had a great time!! and you got to meet Oly and her husband.
When I went to Peru we bought a bunch of stuff for the house too like pOottery from ChuLucanas, retablos,a new nativity, last year I went to a flea market here in NYC and is amazing how people overcharge the prices.
There is a peruvian lady near my job who sells jewelry from our country I talked to her and she charges maybe 5 times the real price of the products, crazy!!

Gotta got to work...

Yes, we heard that at well. They are having a big dinner at the local peruvian restaurant here and we are planning to go to be able to meet everyone. smile.gif

how could we let this thread slide so far??? tongue.gif

Been really busy recently, but we finally got Kathe's AOS paperwork in the mail. I think it was easier to put everything together for the visa. So we are doing that, taxes and trying to buy a house all at the same time. WHEEEEEEEE!

Things are good on the west coast of the country... we are getting ready for the baby!! He/She(we decided we dont want to know if it is a boy or a girl) will be here around the beginning of june... hopefully sooner!! smile.gif

On my bday(March 5th), we celebrated at a Peruvian Restaurant... Andina!! It was awesome... I had chicha morada, lomo saltado and alfajores... The place was full, we had to make reservations with 2 weeks in advance... people like Peruvian food!!! biggrin.gif kicking.gif

Hi All

We got back going on 3 weeks now from a GREAT 10 days in Peru.

It was great being with family and friends again.

Lima is crazy if not crazier than a year ago it seems. Also alot of tourists.

We did notice that it's gotten more expensive there, and that can only come from the rising gas prices which affects everything as we are seeing here.

We ate more excellent food in 10 days than I think we eat here in a month.

The hotel we were in was great.....$65.00 a night including breakfast (Boulevard Hotel & Casino) you can't beat it.

We had our religous wedding that turned out very well. The only problem we had was the priest who was in it for the money and gave rules and regulations hours before the ceremony that messed up a couple of things. The party we had the photographer and flowers were perfect.

We also did a 3 night side trip to Puno and a great day trip on the lake. For those who have never been there, you have to go visit.

When we left Lima to come back (LAN) we were asked just before boarding the plane to show our marriage license, passports and green card. Very strange they would ask us as we board the plane and not at immigration/passport control.

We hope to be back at the end of the year if possible for Christmas and New year.

VIVA PERU !!!!!
Vi Mazzella
Don't forget about us................

Right now we are gathering information to send our I-751, I'm dealing with all the papers 'cause my hubby wants to pay a lawyer and I want to show him that we can do it without spending $$$$.

Yesterday we had an special dinner at my in-laws (Sunday Easter), we had a good time but I have to say that I miss alot the famous "campings" my family loves to go to the beach, actually they go every weekend and is our tradition to close the summer season with a gigantic CAMPAMENTO. We don't have that in NYC sad.gif

What else, oh, something funny happen 1 month ago, my best friend from kindergarden contacted me through the hi5 , she moved to NYC 6 years ago, and is living just 4 blocks from my house, isn't that crazy???? !!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy about that, now we hang out all the time.

.Last friday we went to Pardo's Chicken and enjoy a delicious "Chaufa a la Brasa", + "Anticuchos" with "Tacu Tacu" yes they sell tacu tacu at Pardo's Chicken.

.Melissa, I'm so happy for you, I keep saying to Sil that when I get pregnant I don't want to know the sex of the baby but he says that he'll definitely want to know.

.MandyR I'm glad you had a great time in Peru, to be honest I don't think that the prices went up, I bought so many things to bring to the States.... where did you get married? wich church???

. We got satellite, finally decided to change the service and now we get "CADENA SUR PERU" , is like being in Peru!!!!

Well guys gotta go back to work.....

Saludos

It hasnt been hard at all for us not to find out... I feel we are "keeping the magic"... everything is green, yellow, white and ivory; I love the idea of "torturing" our family, hehehe... everyone wants to know, but us... we had the ultrasound last january and when they asked us if we wanted to know, we said "NO!"... we had to cover our eyes for a while, they wrote in all my charts "Do NOT want to know sex of the baby"...

Chris and I are very "old fashioned"... it is not that we will never know, it is just about patience, wink.gif I laugh when people ask me about Childbirth Classes(I refrained from enrolling until a week ago!!)... my MIL asked me and I told her that the baby was coming out anyway, with pain, with not pain... breathing or not breathing... they convinced me though, so we start with that in a couple of weeks.

I am so excited about our little one! We are almost ready! smile.gif

Pardo's Chicken?? Where??? I am dying to have some pollo a la brasa with that aji huacatay!! YUmmy!!!

Hi guys

This thread is great, although I have not had the time to read it completely. I have guests to dinner tonight and want to delight them with my favorite dish Aji de Gallina devil.gif And since it is a lot of time I cooked this I am not sure if I should add palillo or not, also palillo = turmeric?.

I found aji mirasol in paste (inca foods) and thats the only peruvian spice I would be using. I am also having some yucca fritters with salsa a la huancaina devil.gif I prefer the fritters instead of potatoes.

Any suggestions are welcome!! Wish me luck! innocent.gif

Hi maquilart, thanks for responding. My aji de gallina was delicious good.gif So far, no guest has reported poisoning or something kicking.gif I will check that website later. I couldn't find yucca anywhere so had the papa a la huancaina instead of the fritters.

Congrats on your pregnancy!!! You must be super happy!

I am extremely happy about the pregnancy, although I must say... I want it to be over soon! My belly is huge, and heavy! Everyone says I will have a big baby, I really dont know and up to this point... I dont care... I just want the baby out, hehehe... Im sorry if I sounded desperate, but it is the truth!! Hehehe... whistling.gif

It's so funny there are least 10 women in my group of friends and family that are expecting babies.... , I just found out that one of my best friends from Peru is going to be a daddy in september.
Melissa, 've you decided about names????
My hubby's family keep saying that I'll have a big belly too, I'm a small person (5'2 108 lbs)and Sil is much taller (6'2 ????) he weighted almost 10 lbs when he born. I'm a little scared about that wacko.gif

Guys, you can't beat finding all the available tickets prices in a one single search when using expedia.com or kayak.com. In this last one, for the same month (June) and same airport (JFK), Taca offers the flight for 509 dollars... If flying Lacsa+TACA 478 dollars (or something like that, 2 stops though). Don't fall for sAAvings before comparing.

Buen viaje!

Hi my name is Carmen and I am from Peru. I am going to be marrying George in Lima soon, and we are having lots of questions about the wedding in Lima. Can somebody who has married a peruvian help us please? We went to the Surco City Hall and they say we need to state in all our documents that George lives in Lima otherwise he will have to come here, start the paperwork, get the medical test then fly back to TX and post his wedding "edicto" there , then come back to Lima and finally be able to get married. He can´t be coming that often due to his job, can somebody please post how you didi it? The timings are making us feel overwhelmed, like they are saying the medical exam will be valid only for 30 days, the born certificate needs to be a recent one , and so on.
He is coming to visit me next week for 5 days and then he will come for our wedding on September.
He can only come here the most for 10 days. And they are saying everything needs to be translated and authenticated. How long does it take for the peruvian consulate in the USA to authenticate his papers?
Any advices will be very welcomed. Thank you!

Check with the Canadian Consulate in your city, you might need to get a visa, it depends on the country you are travelling to... We went to Cabo last year and they said that normally I would need to get a visa because I have a Peruvian passport, but being that I am a permanent resident I only needed to bring my greencard.

Hi!!

We are doing ok... trying to stay cool during this heat wave that just hit the west coast... yesterday it was 28C by 10am and 40C by 5pm...

Little Christopher is growing so fast, he is 6 weeks now... I am not doing so well though, it was a VERY rough delivery... had to stay at the hospital for 5 days after delivering, lost too much blood, got anemic(my hemoglobin went down to 5!!), didnt even get to bond with my little one until 4 hours after delivery because they had to take me to the OR to stop the bleeding. To top things off, three weeks after delivery I had to have my gallbladder removed... that was 2 nights at the ER and three days at the hospital after the surgery...

I am still home, got 12 weeks for maternity leave... honestly, I dont think that is going to be enough, I am still in pain... my mom is staying with us until the end of July, she is making things SO much easier!!

I wish the doctor had decided to do a c-section instead of a "normal" delivery being that my baby was so big and that I was in labor for 19 hours and not progressing... I guess that is what we get when we dont know the way "things work" here...

Christopher Alejandro was born on May 29th, 2007
9.59pm - 8lbs 6oz

Sorry I poured all this on you... I felt like venting! wacko.gif

WOW.............. what a time you've had. That has to top all stories of deliveries I've heard of. I sure hope that you're on your way to recovery. To go through 9 months, then surgery and another surgery 3 weeks later I think we all feel for you.

But we're happy that little Chritopher is doing well.......... and you will be too.

Hey Guys , we are here!!!

Feliz 28 a littlle late!!! kicking.gif .

We are doing very well, enjoying the summer and my little sister's visit, she arrived on the 28th and is going to stay 'til september 15th. Last week I took off and we were very busy showing her NYC. We visited more places in one week than in two years. Next week I'm taking off again and we will continue visiting other places.

Congratulation Jeff, Veroka, enjoy your trip! , how's MandyR doing? and waht about MELISSA? HOW'S THE LITTLE ONE??

Vi........ thanks for asking.................

We just got back from a brief 4 day trip to Colorado for a family reunion. A lot of fun........

Rossy is doing great with the pregnancy, except little Sebastian thinks he is playing soccer already. December seems such a long time from now but it's just around the corner.

My travels are done I think until our family reunion cruise next July...... Unless we can find a good deal to N.Y. before the baby arrives.

Rossy is headed back to Lima for a week around Labor Day to spend time with her Mom and help her Mom get a tourist visa so she can be here when the baby arrives. Just hoping that she is able to get the visa.........if not I know Rossy will be very sad to not have her Mom here

Hope you are all enjoying your summer
