My fiance.....soon to be wife in a couple of weeks is from Arequipa. She misses home but really likes it here too.....although she does complain a little about the food not having any flavor here hahahaha. She is dying for some cebiche too.

We found a place in town that actually sells Pisco so we made some drinks the other night.........ahhh yes....I love that drink.

She is adjusting pretty well so far but is having to get used to not having a maid hahahaha.

HI! My fiance is from Moyobamba, Peru. He lives in Trujillo right now. I am flying down there tomorrow for our interview at the embassy on June 22nd! We are hoping that all goes well.

He will be coming up here on August 24th, if all goes well, and I know that he will miss home, but he has been here before and really enjoyed it.

Yes I miss ceviche too, everytime I think about it crying.gif I miss it... ceviche de pescado, ceviche mixto, ceviche de conchas negras my favorite yes.gif
There are NOT many peruvians here I mean in Ohio so Its hard for us to find a peruvian restaurant, there's only one in the whole city and the owners are old and they open on weekends at night its like a bar/restaurant I like their pisco sour good.gif
We also tried to make sangria, It was OK lol
I like this place, It wasn't too shocking moving here but sometimes I miss Peru.. my friends, my family, the food I used eat and its hard to find here.... my favorite band Libido there's none about them in the stores so We download many songs and I could talk to them online on myspace, actually many of the peruvian singers have a account in myspace like pedro suarez vertiz, gianmarco, christian meier, TK, Libido...

She is adjusting pretty well so far but is having to get used to not having a maid hahahaha.

Im from Peru too from San Isidro-Lima and yeah your right, at least to me, to not have a maid has been really difficult, I have had one since i was born, i just needed to say"i want this or that" and she inmediately made it, in fact i miss her too because she had worked for us many many years, she is a lovely person, they day i left, she cried a lot too sad.gif Here i had to learn how to cook, so far im doing pretty good smile.gif at least my husband is still alive tongue.gif hahahaha, well im trying to do my best, my husband loves peruvian food, so i try to cook peruvian dishes everyday. I have heard that there are many peruvian restaurants in California, but we havent gone to one yet although we have a gift certificate for one tongue.gif so i dont know if its the same or not. I have heard too that there are some markets that sell peruvian things too like inka kola, aji amarillo, aji colorado, rocoto, paneton, we need to find out if thats true or not.
I have almost 3 months here and what i miss from Peru is my family sad.gif , i talk to them everyday but its not the same and sometimes i get depressed, my husband has helped me a lot with that, thank God i married a wonderful man who has supported me a lot in everything and he really gives me a lot of love and affection and that definitely is helping a lot. I cant wait to come back to Peru and visit my family smile.gif I miss them a lot

I think we all need to get together and have one big Peruvian party...... Infact on July 28 here in Miami they have a very BIG party for the Peruvian independance day.

If any of you come to visit down in South Florida there are a number of Peruvian restaurants as well as a grocery store chain called Sedanos you can buy Cuzquena beer.

I will post again the web sight as soon as I can find it that you can order online Peruvian food.

Ok I located the web sight for the Peruvian products

Hi everyone,
My fiance is from Peru (Lima) he has been here for four years, he misses many things from home....especially now during the copa mundial. Before we came here (Minneapolis) we were in Lima (Jesus Maria) and before that me in Colombia (Bogota, Chapinero) and him in Lima. Things I know he misses and the first thing he does when he arrives in Lima (about 1 time per year, this year we will go to visit in January 2007!!):
1) chela + ceviche
2) arroz con pollo
3) lomo saltado
4) pan - pan - pan
5) pastel de acelga
6) acetunas
7) palta

There is a good cevicheria in Lima: la choza nautica, but I have never been there (just heard it is good).

PS> I don't know about the rest of you, but we were surprised that Alan Garcia was re-elected :0

Hey MandR, thanks for the web site, they have good products. We are planning to go to Miami in October, we have a wedding but we want to travel to Peru next year too so we will see if we can find cheap tickets from here to Miami. If we go, maybe we can contact you and have a peruvian party, i have many peruvian friends there smile.gif By the way, congratulations on you wife's green card good.gif

Hi Veroka, i havent eaten in that restaurant in Caminos del Inca, but i have seen it. I think we were taking about the same restaurant, its near el Ovalo Higuerete, the owner is the former Cheff of Costa Verde, thats why the food is really good. About the lemon and lime, yeah here they have both, but they called it lime to what we call lemon in Peru, i discussed a lot about that when i first met my husband in Peru, i was really stubborn in that but now i have realized that they call lime to the green one and the other is lemon, for us lime is a fruit and its sweet, I miss it too tongue.gif

About Alan Garcia winning the elections again, No comments blink.gif

Hi everybody. I am so glad to see a post for peruvians (and their spouses). I havent checked this webage in a while (probably since I got my green card). Hubby and I are doing really well. We are going to have a religious wedding in August (we got married by a Judge more than 3 years ago with no guests, no party, nothing). we are having a Catholic ceremony (as you know 95% or peruvians are Catholic). He is Methodist but he has agreed to raise our children Catholics (we plan to have a child next year).

I miss Peru. Basically my friends, the FOOD, and yes the maid. Before moving permanently to the US, I had come here many times for tourism. I already spoke English and had a pretty "american" life so it was no shock. My parents and most of my family were already here (different States, though) so that aspect was fine. But the food was probably the hardest part. I didnt know how to cook. On my first day I burn the rice and the potatos and I started to cry. My hubby hugged me and told me everything was going to be fine. He was (and still is) an angel. He had (and still has blush.gif ) lots of patience with me. I was a complete idiot when it came to housekeeping. I didnt know how to vaccum or do the laudry whistling.gif

We are going to Peru for our second honeymoon this August. We will be in Lima, Cusco, Puno and Arequipa. I have already made a list of all the things I want to eat. I guess I wont have enough time. I want CORN, real corn, not this tiny sweet canned thing they sell here. I want tamales , ceviche, anticuchos, lomo saltado, etc., etc. I dont mind packing the extra pounds. Dont forget the INKA KOLA.

Oh, the best Cevicheria (seafood restaurant) is El Pez Amigo, in Miraflores. It's absolutely delicious. A little bit expensive but it is worthy.

Take care everybody,
Claudia

If you get your green card though marriage, you can apply for citizenship 3 years after you received permanent residency (the rest of the people have to wait 5 years). Actually, you can submit your application for citizenship 90 days before those 3 years (check the date in you green card).

Personally, I dont want to apply for citizenship. Even though I like it here Peru is my homeland, the country that raised me and made me who I am. I like the US but I dont love it as my country. I feel that it would be like trading your birth parents (maybe poor and small but the ones that support you your whole life) for a new rich foster parent you just met (maybe cool and powerful but you just met). If the US accepted dual citizenship like most countries do, the story may be different. I dont like that part i the oath were you agree to "renunce to any foreign alliance bla, bla, bla". My husband wants me too though. He is a federal officer and he feels it is "safer" for me to be US citizen. As a citizen you have the absolute garanty that you wont be deported. Green Card holders can still be deported. I have known many people who think like me but became citizens after having children, because of the fear that something may happen to them and their families might end up beign separated (they crossed their fingers during the "I renunce to Peru part". whistling.gif )

I can understand that but You will have a family here, w /a husband , kids so You have a new life in this country it doesnt mean You trade your country ...
talking about the green card on the welcome letter it said that "It will expire in 2 years and several months before it expired I should apply to remove my conditional status"... so in 1 year and some months I should apply for my citizenship... is that right?
K & J
Dont worry about the xpiration date (at least not for the citizenship process). The green card (conditional or without conditions) says: "resident since xx/yy/200z. You have to start counting your 3 years from that date. It doesnt matter that is a conditional residency.

Now, it is very likely that your conditional green card expires before you can file for citizenship. You have to file for the "lifting of conditions". One thing has nothing to do with the other (of course if you lose your residency you can not apply for citizenship). As long as you are still a resident (with or without conditions) you can apply for citizenship.

Thank you
I was reading about it...
what I understand now I have to apply for lift of condition 9 months before my green card expire so I will get a new green card according what I read a new green card of 10 years... but if you decided to become a citizen you need to apply for the citizenship 3 years after approval of your AOS so I have to apply the I-751 (lifting of conditions) because you can be deportable or You won't be able work.
Anyway I still have enough time for that kicking.gif and I wanna enjoy it because we already spent so much time apart heart.gif biggrin.gif wink.gif when I was in Peru and He was waiting for me here. heart.gif

Does anyone know what happens if a USC wants to move to Peru? Right now we plan to live here in the US and then in about 15 years move to Peru.

I guess if the US does not allow dual citizenship she would not want to give up her Peruvian citizenship right?

Anyways if you guys have any thought let us know.

Thanks
Artegal
My wife wants to give up her Peruvian citizenship--but I want her to wait and see--cause I would like to know the full results of such a move. I would like to have the option to live in Peru legally at some future date.

PS: BTW Publix sells Inca Cola.
Oly
What i know about living in Peru and staying there legally is that you guys would have to become peruvians and get and DNI, its like the AOS here, fisrt you have the right to stay 3 months without problems and then you need to become a resident unless you get a work permit though a company. My cousin married a swiss girl and she had to become a peruvian citizen so she could stay in Peru, of course when she travels, she uses her swiss passport tongue.gif so she doesnt need to get a visa for any country. There are some countries that allow dual citizenship like Spain, but US is not in the list sad.gif I hope that information helps.

ceviche is not exactly my favorite dish, but my wife loves it. I tasted in when I was in Peru last. I think it to be an acquired taste. She says she has not yet been able to find all of the ingredients here to make it the way she did in Peru. I guess she will just have to wait until we take our next trip over to visit friends and family.

Article 53 of the 1993 Constitution (see http://www.georgetown.edu/pdba/Constitutions/Peru/) says that “La nacionalidad peruana no se pierde, salvo por renuncia expresa ante autoridad peruana.”

Pedro Pablo Kuczynski is a Peruvian citizen who has held high level government positions in Peru, and he is a naturalized US citizen. He conserves dual citizenship. (now, he has been criticized for accepting his second citizenship due to some of the policies he has promoted, as they seem more pro-US than pro-Peru...but that is another story!)

well if I hit the lotto I will move to Peru and build a hotel in Lima for Norte Americanos--and a resort hotel in Punta Sal beach area, who knows maybe even start a tour company.

The best place to eat ceviche??? Uhmmmmm I'll say "El Muellecito" in San Borja (Rosa Toro Av.), I live in NYC and there are plenty of peruvian restaurants and peruvian bodegas (*Queens & Portchester) we try to go there once a month to eat some good ceviche, tallarines verdes, anticuchos, trucha frita, etc and after that we go to visit the bodegas to buy some Inca Kola, sublimes, sorrento, cuacua, triangulo (yes, Sil loves peruvian chocolates) we are looking everywhere for Pisco but can't find it so each and everytime somebody from Peru comes to visit us my mom sends some bottles (Vargas and Biondi, no, we are not alcoholic, but who can resist a good Pisco Sour???)
I try to cook peruvian food almost everyday, I got this book "Que cocinare hoy??? from Nicolini and helps me ALOT. Even Sil is cooking now, I taught him how to make Papa a la Huancaina and our addiction : CANCHITA!!!!! we have canchita all the time and his family love it too.
I miss to have a maid too ( I miss you Delia!!!) I wish I can hire own but maids are really expensive here (they make about $500 a week) maybe when I win the lottery.

As all of you I miss my family, my friends, my doggy, the cheap taxis, the combis, the noise, and I'm counting the days to go back to Peru for Christmas (Just 180 more days!!!!!!!!)

Well people I hope all of you have a wonderful day!!!!!!

Saludos to everybody....

Vi

Hi people

someone asked how to get the 3 certificates(certificado de la policia, certi de antecendetes penales del poder judicial, cert de antec, judiciales)for the interview in the Lima embassy helpsmilie.gif

the question was

..."My fiance lives in Cusco right now, where would he go about getting
these 3 DIFFERENT cert's, since the addresses listed all seem to be for
Lima??
K & J
If the fiance lives in Cusco, he needs to get all his certificados in that city. Go to the local police station and they will tell you.

For all foreigners who want to live in Peru: You do NOT need to become a citizen, just a legal resident (like here in the US). Your peruvian spouse can petition you and you will become you will be handed a "carnet de extranjeria". It's like a peruvian green card. It is a simple process. The spouse needs to be peruvian.

By acepting the US citizenship you are NOT renuncing to the peruvian one, FOR PERUVIAN purposes. For Peru, the only way you can renunce to the peruvian citizenship (which actually makes no sense except if you want to save a 50 dollar fine every 5 years for not voting in presidential elections) is by express and written consent. The is a form the peruvian citizen needs to fill out. For practical reasons, it gives you absolutely no advantage (except for the fine already mentioned).

Actually, it is very beneficial to have both (and to your children to have both). Remember the draft during Vietnam war? God know if something happens in the future and the US becomes a dangerous place to live for you or your children. If you need to leave, where would you go? I am not pesimistic but during the 70's (not that long ago) a lot of man fled the country in order to avoid being sent to the slaughter (Vietnam). Those with dual US-Canadian or US-Mexican citizenship were safe but the other went through an ordeal.

US doesnt recognize dual citizenship but most of the countries do. I know it may be a difficult concept to grasp but believe me, it has no practical consequences (I know my deal of international law). For the US you wont be peruavian anymore but for Peru you are.

Thanks for that explanation, that helps a lot.

Let me throw this situation at you, What would happen if the USC did successfully become a Peruvian rather than a resident? What would the US Government think about that?

Could you please give me the address or directions to Garcias restaurant in Columbus. Did they change the name or management yet? I'm going to be in Columbus next month and I want to try it out.
