Hi all!

Now I am way past this point on our timeline, except for the fact that my case is now back to the USCIS for more reviews, but I have a question for anyone that knows.

When you first file your I-130 or I-129F to the USCIS, what are the standard security checks that they do? What things do the look for?

Thanks for your input! good.gif

Great link my Aussie friend! I had no idea the amount of security checks that go into the initial petition. One part seemed strange to me. It states that the USCIS might approve the petition but note for the consulate "admissibility conerns idetified". So I am curious, what kind of concerns are they not equipped to deal with there and would leave it to the consulate? All the I-129f/I-130 does is approve and eligibility and determine the type. So what could they find that they can't address before it goes to the consulate? Any ideas?

Also, does anyone know if the security checks go beyond the petitioner and applicant in the initial state of the approval process? Specifically family members. Does anyone know if they ever run checks on them?

Hi Aussie,

On the side note, link to the Time savers post in your signature, is broken due to the recent crashes... easy to fix, change forum to forum2.

My understanding of it is that they can approve the petition even though there is unresolved security issues. In other words they pass the buck. Security checks are also done at the NVC level and the embassy level. It could explain too why some cases are denied at embassy stage. The stupid thing about it too is that even if there is unresolved security issues they do not seem to share info so the next stage has to try and duplicate the hit. Crazy.

Lawyers are subject to them as well if one is using one. Anyone connected to the petition. Will see if I can read quickly back over the link and find the exact piece that mentions it.
