How is everyone? Great to hear from you Michele. I'm having a nervous breakdown. .. one week until the interview. I can't believe this. . .just wish it was over. I really hope everything is okay. . .. starting to get very worried, anxious, nervous.
We have not heard anything from the medical, so I think that is a good sign. He paid the VISA fee today and the airline ticket is paid for. Just waiting for approval and the passport with the VISA in it. Hopefully everything is okay.....
Best of luck to you, Mark on your medical this week.
Take care and have a great week.

Hi All!
Things are ok over here. We are busy house hunting these days, but sofar we haven't found that one perfect place yet.....well, we've seen a couple of really nice places way out of our price range, but I think we need to rob a bank or something in order to be able to afford those.....
Ed finally found our NOA 2 again. He took it to work to copy it 2 weeks ago and it just dissapeared! Needless to say I wasn't happy about it because I posted a question about this on the AOS forum and turns out getting a new NOA2 would have cost us $ 200! Ed put it in a folder at work and forgot about it.....tsk.....men
Aw Ronda, no need to get a nervous breakdown, I am sure everything will go down very smoothly next week! Not hearing from the medical is indeed a good things cause it means everything was ok.
Mark and Michele, how did the medical go?
Take care all!

Mark’s Medical LOG Amsterdam
Amsterdam is from my place about a 75-Mile drive, on a Sunday morning (with sticking to the driving speed-limits!) easily driven within 1 and 3 quarter hour!
Just to give you all an impression in the “time-schedule” here’s my “time-line” of traveling up and down there;
•04:00AM Rise, Shine_n_Shower
•04:30AM Getting in my car and drive off,
•05:00AM to 08:45AM It took me FOUR HOURS and 15 MINUTES due traffic jams to get to the Medical Place!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
•08:50AM to 08:55AM Looking for a parking spot $2.50/ 2Euro’s per 10 minutes!!!
•08:55AM to 09:00AM Walking too the Medical Center
•09:00AM to 09:05AM Signing in and start waiting,….
•09:05AM to 09:25AM Waiting some more,……..
•09:30AM to 09:45AM X-ray being taken, cost $63.37/ €50,- Euro’s
•09:45AM to 10:00AM Walking to the Doc’s office! (walking because finding a parking space at THAT hour in Amsterdam is virtually impossible, so it’s better to leave the car where it was!)
•10:00AM to !0:30AM Signing in, fill in some more papers and pee in a cup!
•10:30AM to 10:45AM Having blood taken by the Doc and Medical exam and pay $196.44/ €155,- Euro’s
•10:50AM to 11:10AM Walking back to my car fast, because parking ticket was 20 minutes past “payed for” time!
•11:10AM to 12:45PM Traveling/driving back home!
•12:45PM Back home.
As YOU can see taking full DAY off work is VERY recommendable!!!!
With the “blood taking” I notched something weird though, as I’m unfortunately a DVT patient, I KNOW as no other HOW a blood taking procedure is done!
I never SAW him taking a NEW needle, so I ask about it!
With a bit of a surprised face, he stumbled and answered “ofcourse I did”,…….yet after he took MY blood, he NEVER DISPOSED the needle he used on me,….but instead REPLACED the “protection” cap?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
What The F#@$%*&@*&#%$CK?!?!?!?!?!?
So once again,…I said shouldn’t you dispose that “just-used” needle?
The Doc reacted a bit ticked and said that he will do that when I’m out of the office and before he receives the next person!
I don’t KNOW about you guys,…….but THAT’S a VERY WEIRD “blood-taking-procedure”!!!!
Blood has been taken from me 1000'S of times by the hospitals checking my blood EVERY MONTH, the past years,.....but I NEVER SEEN A PROCEDURE LIKE THIS BEFORE!!!
I’ve been looking around in his “office” but I couldn’t find a “needle-disposal-bucket” anywhere!!!!
And to be honest,………..I DON’T TRUST THAT DOCTOR ONE LITTLE BIT!!!!
Soooo I hope I don’t hear anything from that Doc ( for the doc's sake), like “they found something”, or that MY hospital finds "something"………..cuz I highly suspect that DOC for USING the same needle over and over again,…which might of transferred something,….if they “find something”!!!!
Because I KNOW for a fact (right because I’m a DVT patient-which means I’m on regular blood control) that MY blood is as clean as clean can get!
So if “they” find something,….I’m going to KILL that DOCTOR!!!!!!!
QUOTE(Arazia @ Sep 19 2006, 06:03 PM)

Just a quick update...
We got our NOA1 or the K-1 Visa this past weekend. It's not much but it's something at least. I'm a little worried at the timing of things.
Harry is coming here from December 17-January 4th,
To Arazia,
I’m NOT an expert, but I don’t think it’s very smart for your Dutch partner to travel too the USA while a K1 procedure is running!
I mean,…..he might HAVE to turn around at the airport right because of the K1 procedure running!!!
Or did I misunderstand / miss-read something?!?!?!?!?
To everyone else;
Good to see/read everything is going "smooth" with everyone!!!
Keep posting on how things are going!!!
Regards Mark.

Hi Mark en Michele!.....Wow about that needle thing. Did you have a young guy or an older guy as the doctor? As far as I can remember the doc took out a new needle out of some sort of package in my case. The doctor who did my medical was the older guy. Do hope everything will be ok for you!
Hi Rhonda and Wilmot!....Good luck with the interview tomorrow!!!!! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you guys!
Hi Arazia!.....As long as Harry takes some evidence (employee letter, lease contract of his house) with him that he will return to Holland after his visit you guys should be alright. Ed and me never took that chance simply because we didn't want to jeopardize anything, but I have read many stories on here of people who did visit while their K1 was pending and who had no problems.
As for me, I am glad this AOS and EAD paperwork will be out of the door this week. Hopefully everything will be ok and the decision making in that whole procedure won't be super long but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Take care all!

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for the concern.
Since the Netherlands is part of the VWP, it's generally a lot easier for visits then it might be with some other countries. During the last visit to the United States, he was only aske two questions, the purpose of his visit and how long he was staying.
As far as I've been told, border agents have no information as to K-1 applications, or any other applications for that matter. He plans on bringing evidence of his return ticket as well as his school schedule which shows his classes after the Christmas holiday.
What is confusing me is everyone saying 'we didn't want to jeopardize anything'. How can a visit jeopardize the process? Even if he gets turned back (which is highly unlikely) how would that cause any problems whatsoever?
A very confused...

Yes....Em , you said it better than I could have

Loads have done it and had no problems, however if you do a search on this site, there are stories of some people whom have had difficulties at immigration. Wether that has been because of the countries they have been from or not-I do not know-but like Em&Ed, Mark and I did not want the possible hassle. Chances are it will be fine -just make sure he has the documentation ( stuff that shows he will be returning) with him at immigration at the POE for his vacation

, you know-just in case.
Em...How's it going with the house-hunting?

Wilmot did not arrive on Saturday, he didn't get the VISA from the embasy until yesterday. He arrived today at 4 pm. Needless to say I'm very happy. We are also very happy because his POE was Chicago and he was given the temporary work permit. Which is really great news.
Em can't wait to hear what house you guys end up choosing.
I don't have a lot to tell about his interview. He keeps telling me it was very easy. For sure they asked him how we meet, and why he wants to marry me. I can't really get any other questions out of him. But as he tells me more this week, I will post more info for you Arazia.

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the congratulations-we are very very happy and relieved! Mark has told me alittle about the interview, but he is really busy right now-I am sure he will post in the Embassy review section, but he told me it was basically straight forward (like Rhonda said). A couple of questions ( where we met/what I did for a living...etc) and that was it, really! Mainly a long wait beforehand to be seen and no briefcases allowed in there.
I am sorry to hear that Wilmot's visa did not make it to him in time for his scheduled flight, Rhonda- but he is there now

, and that's the main thing. How is he liking America so far?
How's the house hunting going, Em? Tell us all about your new house when you find one!
Azaria-how are you? Do you have the NOA2 yet? They seem to be processing alittle faster now.
I totally agree about the staying in touch and keeping our patch of Netherlands going! Especially for the AOS-I have to admit-I am so clueless about that

I am sure it will all make sense when I start reading up on it all. Hopefully
Take care everyone!

No NOA2 yet. I'd be bouncing all over the forums if I had one. It's been 37 days since the original filing, and one month since our NOA1. I'm really not expecting any news until next month this time at the earliest.
Things have been a little hectic on the RL side of things. Harry's father took a job contract that lasts five years and will require him to live in another country after two. The entire family isn't taking it well. His mom is really stressed out, and that rubbed off onto his father who was/is already near a breakdown.
He sat down with both the 'kids', Harry and his sister, and told them that this is all their fault, and if they don't shape up, he's going to get a divorce. Seriously, that's probably the most stupid thing a parent can do. I hate hearing stories where parents do this to their adult kids, hell even their non-adult kids, that's even worse. Additionally, he said if they don't follow his rules, they can get the hell out. He passed a rule that Harry can't talk to me past 1am. (6pm my time. Bare in mind I don't get home until 5:30 so that cuts all communication to about 30 minutes a day.) We've been cheating that rule thus far.
His father is getting therapy right now, and his mother has said she doesn't agree with what her husband told the kids and the new rules he put on them. Harry still hasn't told them that we're engaged or anything about our plans. But really... after reading what I just wrote... would you tell them? I know it has to happen eventually, I just worry he'll get yelled at, kicked out of his home, or worse. So in some ways I'm feeling as if walking on egg-shells.

Wow Azaria-I can see how you would be feeling like you are walking through a minefield right now. What a terrible situation for Harry (and you).
I am so sorry he and you are going through this. I will pray for a speedy approval for you and Harry. What will Harry do to tell his folks about the petition? They MUST already know that you two are serious and this is bound to happen sooner or later...no?
I am sorry the situation is what it is, but soon you and he will have that approval and then you can make concrete plans for your lives together.

Michele,
Thanks for your well-wishes. I do appreciate it.
His parents, I think, are somewhat in a state of denial. I think on some level they realize that we're very serious about one another, we talk to each other every night, we've seen each other multiple times across an ocean. On the other hand, I think they are trying to convince themselves that this is something that is a passing phase. I think they get their hopes up that every time we visit, that he'll come back home and settle down with a nice Dutch girl.
In any case, it could still be a while before USCIS approves us on this side of the pond. Our plans were, and seem to remain as such, to tell them after the Christmas holiday. This is the time when we should (unless USCIS really screws up) have approval and Harry will have to tell them that he's not attending school next semester. Oh well. We'll see.
*hugs*

Arazia.....I want to wish you and Harry good luck with the whole situation. I can imagne it's not easy. After reading that his dad passed a rule that he can't talk to you after a certain time one question popped into my mind though, how old is Harry?
Rhonda.....It's so good to hear that you and Wilmot are together now!
Michele.....When's Mark arriving in the States?
As for us.....we now saw 3 houses. House 1 was gorgeous, huge backyard, lots of privacy.....but no garage and we need one for Ed's cars. House 2, gorgeous as well, backyard was huge, but.....behind the backyard was a canal and some trees and....the very busy I-95 freeway (noise would drive mecrazy, we were standing in the yard and could barely have a normal conversation). House 3 looked good online but in reality was not so great, needs a lot of work (the so-called fixer upper.....lol). We met a nice realtor though who is a buyers specialist and she is going to work with us in order to find our dream home, so hopefulle we will have our own home soon and we will finally get out of this place.
Take care all!

Harry is 19. He'll be 20 in February. When I first met him, he was living in Amsterdam going to school there, but he had to transfer schools and is now attending a school in Maastricht and is living at his parent's home. He's probably a bit younger than most people involved in this sort of thing, I would guess.
It was a situation of 'you do what we say or get the hell out'. (You live under our roof you follow our rules or leave.)

Welcom Mel. . . good luck on your journey.
We are doing great. I went to buy my dress for the Wedding today. We are planning to have the wedding December 29, 30, or 31st. I prefer the 31st, but I will need to check on the reception site, this coming week.
I hope everything is going good for everyone, I will try to check in. We are going to apply for social security card next week. Em, did you wait two weeks to apply for yours?
Take care,
Rhonda

Welcome, Mel hope your visa process is a speedy one-keep us updated!
and Hi all!
How are things? Well, we are starting to get very excited; Mark is getting ready to leave the Netherlands and I am running around like a headless chicken getting things ready! It seems the more I do the more I still have YET to do

although, I think I am pretty much "set" for our wedding. My parents are flying in from the UK; for the wedding, afew days after Mark lands , which will be lovely!
Rhonda-Congrats on finding "the dress".

and sorting out your wedding date

How exciting!
I loved looking for my dress ( and "hated" looking too because there were too many to pick from)-and I am a very "picky" shopper who gets frustrated easily.....But I have it now ( have had it ages, actually). It took FOREVER to find the right shoes, though

, I looked everywhere-Dallas-Shreveport..etc etc etc and ended up finding a pair online!
Em-did you and Ed buy that house you were looking at?

How's it going over there in FL?
Arazia-How is Harry doing with everything over there in The Netherlands? Hope all is well!
Keep posting, everyone!
take care, all

Hi all
Rhonda.....Yeps, I did wait 2 weeks before applying for the SSN. Come to mention of it, I still have to get my name changed on it

. Good to hear you found a wedding dress. In a way I amglad I didn't have to go through that -help, I need a dress- stress

Are you guys going to get married in a spelcial place?
Michele.....I bet you are just counting down the days till Mark will be over. Doesn't it feel great not to have that visa stress hangin' over your head anymore (although now you might have wedding stress

)
Arazia.....Any news on your K1 case?
Mel.....Good luck on the whole K1 thing!
As for me, I am not doing to great right. I have the -I feel lonely, I am homesick (read, I miss my family back in Holland) blues- I guess. I knew this would hit sooner or later and it's not much fun. I feel pretty down right now, but ah well, I guess I'll be ok again in a few days from now..... It's hard to entertain yourself all the time. Ed's at work all day, I am on my own here, I do go for walks and bike rides, I go to the park or beach, but I do everything by myself and well, that really starts to suck. Since most people work during the day the people I do run into are mainly elderly people over here and hardly ever people of my own age. I miss hanging out and talking with friends, shopping with my mum etc.....sigh

No house for us yet.....boohoo. But we are still looking!!!!!
Take care all!

No news yet on our K-1. It's 45 days into things, so I don't really expect to hear much for a while unless CSC decides to do something to surprise me.
Harry's family situation is still tense, although it's eased somewhat since his father started seeing a therapist. We really miss each other, and it's a day to day battle sometimes. Still, it's nice to hear about other's interviews and know that someday we'll get to that point.
Not much do do but cross our fingers and wait for a while.

Hello! How is everyone? I hope that things are going well for all! I have a question regarding shipping companies from the Netherlands to the US. Is there anyone who has used this type of service? If so, who did you use or who do you plan on using? Rene has been searching for a company there (Netherlands) that will ship to here for a reasonable fee. Any input would be appreciated

Hi Mel

.....Before I left I did look into shipping compagnies, but all the stuff I wrote down regarding all that I threw away. Maybe Rene could just call a few international moving compagnies around his area to see what they can do for him. For me, shipping was no option after hearing the prices they asked for it. All I took with me were 2 suitcases and one of my cats. There are still a few things at my parents place and my sisters place that in time I'd like to have send over or like to take with me after visiting them or stuff they could take with them when they come over here (pictures, books, some clothing and a few other things).
Take care.

Mel, sorry we did not need to use a shipping company. I would go with Em's suggestion.
Mark and Michele, I'm so excited for the two of you, December will be here soon. Michele, don't stress out too much getting ready. J/K I had a nervous breakdown getting ready for Wilmot.
Em, I'm sorry to hear about your homesick feelings. Maybe you could volunteer at a school or community center. . . so you could interact with somepeople closer to your age. Wilmot will start volunteering, and also use that place as a reference when he starts looking for work.
The wedding is really keeping me busy. .. so I will check in once and a while. It is harder then I thought to get a wedding ready in 3 months. But I'm going to try my hardest. I will keep you all posted. I think we will invite close to 150 people to the reception.
Harry and Arazia, I'm glad to hear things are a little less tense.... I hope things continue to improve and you two work everything out with Harry's parents. Arazia, hopefully, your family is suppportive.
Have a good week, everyone.

Thanks guys for the suggestion! Everything we have found so far is financially not very realistic for the types of items that need to be shipped. I just thought maybe someone had better luck than we did with it.

Mel.....What sort of items are you talking about? If it is only small stuff, it can be send through regular mail in a box. I believe any box under 10 kg is like 34 euro's. It needs to be send through regular mail though and not priority and will take a while to arrive since it most likely will be shipped by boat, but it might be an option (although I am not to sure on the kg and price, but Rene could find that stuff out at the post office).
Take care.

Most of what Rene wants to bring is small stuff, but he wont have room in 2 suitcases to bring it. Just some computer components, DVD's etc... I think we have decided to have it shipped by boat. It can take many weeks they told him but there is no rush on getting any of those items here. Thanks so much for all of your help!

I hope things are well with you both.

Hi everyone!
I was sorry to hear about the homesick feelings, Em

. I do know how you feel as my entire family are in the UK and I moved here when I was in my early 20's ( I was born in America...loooooooooong story) and the homesickness at first was really painful (and I still miss them and England). It does get easier with time

Excellent idea about the volunteering, Rhonda. Try and get out of the house-what about a college class? Most of the colleges here have some pretty interesting looking classes going on. Hopefully you will be feeling better soon
Mel-I do not think Mark is using a shipping company right now-sorry I am not much help with that one.
Glad to hear the wedding plans are coming together, Rhonda, keep us updated!
Good news that Harry's situation is alittle better, Arazia

Let us know when you get the NOA2!!!!! Has Harry told them, yet?
As for us, well the countdown is ON! I have to say that since Mark got the visa the days are dragging by and seem to last forever! Yet
despite that, I am still not getting everything done I need to ( if that makes any sense)
Anyway, keep posting and take care, all
Michele
PS You two are in FL-how cool is that? Do you live near one another?

Em and Mel, intresting that you two live in the same state. It would be great if you could get together and see each other sometime.
Michele, I agree it seemed like the days were too long after getting the Visa and then coming over here.
I have been busy with introducing Wilmot and wedding plans. So I haven't had much time on VJ. Sorry. Nothing new to post about the wedding. I hope everyone has a great week.

You are right. untill 10 kilo is 34 euro to sent ir trough tnt. Priorety is 52,50.
I heard from someone else who is looking in to shipping that the cheapest she could find so far 1750,- for 1m3. Tha t would mean for me that I can put 12 boxes is there. While if I sent them with tnt it only costs me 408. So if it is only small stuff that can be boxed then box it and sent it.

..... How are the wedding preperations going? You guys all stressed out yet? You are not turning into Bridezillas are you?????
The homesickness comes and goes, but I guess it's just a normal thing. I have been. doing some volunteer work here and there and it was a lot of fun. I'd love to work at the animal shelter but they just moved that place 15 miles from here and since I only have my bicycle that's a little to far for me right now. We are looking at houses in the town it moved to, so who knows. Right now I am waiting for our NOA 1 for our AOS application. Maybe I am little to impatient to expect it already after 1.5 week , but ah well. Anyways, I am off for a bike ride since the weather is super nice right now.
Take care all

Hi to everyone. The wedding plans are progressing. Things are very hectic and I seem to keep changing my mind. But hoepfully, all of this stress will be worth it. Take care and I hope you are all having nice weekends.

I am sure all of the stress will be worth it in the end. Hang in there!
Rene and I received an RFE on November 1

CSC sent us 5 emails and our lawyer has yet to receive the letter to tell us what it is. AAARRGGHH!!! We have reviewed absolutely everything and can think of nothing that we did not include. I have read by a few VJ members that they are notorious for losing things out of your file there. Wish us luck and let us hope that whatever it is can be quickly resolved.
Hope everyone else is doing great and enjoying what is left of the weekend!

Mel,
Sorry to hear about your RFE. Keep us posted, I hope it something simple. At least they are looking at your case and hopefully once you have sent it back, you will have a quick approval. Keep us posted.
Arazia how are you and Harry? Have you recieved your NOA 2 yet? I hope everything is going okay.
Em, Michele, Mark, Jackybeertje, have a nice week and I hope everything is going okay.
