We are amazed and excited! ohmy.gif

My Dutch husband has received his letter saying his removal of conditions has been approved!! YAY! biggrin.gif

And so tomorrow, we are off to the nearest USCIS office (Pittsburgh, PA) to appear in person with new photos for a new greencard; and to receive a stamp in his passport so that he is allowed to travel until he has the new greencard in his hand.

It took 6 months to receive this approval. Kinda surprised that it wasn't longer actually.

Next step, citizenship!!!!!!! kicking.gif No longer an alien.gif lol

As I understand it, we can start the process for citizenship 90 days before he has lived in the US 3 years. Someone please let me know if that's not correct. I'd really appreciate it!!

Good luck to everyone in their journeys through immigration!

In general, if you have been a Permanent Resident for three years and have been married to and living in a valid marital union with the same U.S. citizen spouse for all three years AND you meet the other criteria (Residence and Physical Presence, Good Moral Character, Language etc), you are eligible for naturalization.

In addition to time as a PR, there are several other qualifying conditions that must be met. Please review the Guide to Naturalization in the linked thread.

Be careful with dates! I recommend that you use a date calculator like the one Danny M posted for us yesterday: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17304

CONGRATS AND BEST WISHES!!!

We made our trip to Pittsburgh to the Department of Homeland Security June 13, 2006 following receipt of approval to remove conditions.

Outside of taking a wrong turn in Pittsburgh, everything went very smoothly and very quickly.

Once passing through the security check at the front door, we went upstairs into the immigration area. There were 4 windows where people were working, helping those waiting. Once Rob's name was called, we went to one of the windows and the guy took our appointment letter (you make your appointment on the USCIS website info pass system and make a copy of the receipt for appointment time there); took the new passport size photo's we brought; took Rob's old greencard; and Rob's passport. He then told us to have a seat while he did some paperwork. In just a few moments, he called Rob's name again. This time, he had him put his right index finger print on a card - on both sides and sign on both sides. Then he handed us Rob's passport back and showed us a stamp he had put in there. He explained that this was proof that Rob's new greencard was in process and was to be used as his temporary greencard for permanent residence, travel outside the US and work authorization until his new greencard arrives in the mail.

It was very simple, very painless and took about 15 minutes.

Good luck to those waiting for approval! good.gif
