Ive been reading a little bit on this. So heres my question.
After we will send the K-1 application, if I am travelling to the us, they can see the K-1 while scanning my passeport, but as long as I am honest and saying i am visiting my BF and that I have my job waiting for me in canada i shouldnt be denied at the border?
My concern here is that most of the people crossing went by car, and i go by plane. I wouldnt risk to pay 500$ for my roudn trip if I have a chance to be denied cause that would be a great waste of money. But again, with a my return ticket as an additional proof would it be ok?
thanks

Unfortunately no matter how much evidence you have, nothing can guarantee that you'll be able to enter the US. If you do decide to make the trip, the best thing to do is be honest yet don't volunteer too much information. I just visited my fiance in the US but I drove over by car and they didn't ask me a single question about my K1 petition - but I know there are a lot of people who have had different experience and have been denied entry.
If you still feel so-so about spending money I would seriously consider not going because there is no way to know the outcome.

Nobody can tell you what will happen. If you can prove you intend to return that should help but some people are denied anyway. Many people get through with no problem.
I have not tried so I don't know personally just from reading here.

If you do a search on VJ you wil find many posts. this questions comes up weekly. Some have problems, some do not. Some have crossed POE many times with success, then get denied!! Myself, I travlled monthly to DC and never had a problem. But thats only my experience. Have proof of ties to Canada (apartment/house lease, letter from employer, return ticket) That may help or it may not. Pretty mcu comes down to the POE officer. Dont bring tons of luggage, job resumes. I dont think just having a return ticket is suffice, as they know a return ticket is usuallycheaper than purchasing a 1 way ticket. Be honest answer the questions, but dont add to the answers unless asked to!! Best of luck

Thats my first guess, to not even try the trip....
Only concerns here is that my BF has kids and its a little more difficult for him to come visit me, and i would have like to be with his family for thanksgiving ( k-1 should be sent by then but not approved)
But i guess its just a question of being lucky or not. A little too much hazardous for me.
Thanks for the quick answer

I don't know if they can see the K1 or not, but I've been crossing the border to see my guy for 5 years and I never had a problem or concern... until I got to this board! The more you read about people who DO have problems, the more paranoid you can become. Since the K1 application, I bring a letter from my boss saying that I work for this company, have been granted this much leave, and am expected back at the office on such and such a date. I haven't had to show it.

I found it actually easier to travel back forth during the K-1. My fiance has been the states during our process and I have been to Canada. I had more problems before we filed than I have now. Unfortunately, there is no wrong or right answer this.

If you are also planning on travelling to the States with the K-1 visa already in your passport but not using the visa that visit, be very sure you explain to the officers that you are NOT using the K-1 visa even though it is in your passport. You can explain that you are just going down to visit for Thanksgiving but your actual K-1 move will be later - and if you have the details you can provide them. It will still be up to the border guard if they will let you in but I know two individuals who had received their K-1s who 'visited' before they activited the actual K-1 entrance and they had no problems.

I never used my passport to trevel across the border with until I used it to activate my visa. All I ever did was hand them my drivers license (photo id) It was always sufficient, I was never questioned further and the situation of my visa never came up. I always answered only the questions asked, dont volunteer more than needed and never had a hassle.
My fiance and I even went to Florida for 2 weeks and my license didnt match my name on the ticket because he bought it in my maiden name and my license still had my former married name on it....I had no hassles, didnt need a passport tho because it wasnt an international flight, I drove to Ohio, then flew to Florida, so we didnt have to clear customs or anything .....

I went to the Us to visit my fiance while waiting on the visa. And like everyone says theres just no way of knowing. All depends on the person you see at customs. We had already recieved our packet 3 from Montreal and were waiting on an interview date at the time. I brought a letter from my employer stating when I was due back at work and they did ask for it. So I guess it's up to you and whether you want to risk the money and if you can provide sufficiate proof of ties here in Canada. But like most I drove into the US so the most I was risking if they denied me was a days worth of gas and driving. Good luck if you decide to try.

I cross every two weeks so I have sufficient evidence that I will return. I think it stays in the computer, how long you stay or how else would they know if you overstayed. I am planning to do a vacation soon and then come back for the interview and pack up and move. I hope you go and see him ...... I don't think it's in the computer till it's approved the never mentioned it to me for 3 months while it was pending and the week it was approved they asked me about it. I didn't bring the paper but said they were at home in Canada and the guard said you will return then -- I said of course .
