So Dave and I will cross the border on Saturday in Buffalo on our way back to boston.

I know it takes a few weeks to get into the system for SSN processing... so what can we do without it?

Can we:

1)Open a bank account for him (it's been so long since I've done this, I don't remember!
2)Apply for a marriage license? (that shouldn't be an issue right?)

All depends on the bank, some will let you sign up without a SSN, some won't!! My Wachovia branch let me, just agve it to them when it came in.

Didnt require a SSN for my marriage license We got married prior to starting the immigration process!!

Best of luck

My husband was able to add me to his account without a SNN although I had to provide them with it when I did get it. We also didn't need my SSN for our marriage license. Good luck

The requirements for a marriage license, of course, vary from state to state. Texas, for instance, does require an SSN. Not that it applies to your case, but I wanted to make that clear for anyone else who might be reading and wondering. smile.gif

I've had an account with Bank of America for several years now without having a SSN. The only difference between having one and not having one was that I could only get a "gold" visa card, not a "platinum" one. laughing.gif

Mass doesn't require a SSN for a marriage license.
As for the bank, I opened one without an SSN and I am pretty certain everyone can. There will be a form he will need to fill out which states he does not have a SSN. It can be done.
You can put him on some household bills without an SSN, to help establish his residence.
You can add him as secondary users to your cell phone, etc. Things that need to be done eventually, and it'll make him feel great if he's already included in some things.

Hope that helps.

In Georgia there isn't a lot you can do without a SSN....for instance....I have a Regions Bank and a United Bank account. Can't put Joel on there without a SSN. Joel can't get a fishing license...haven't gotten a denial of SSN letter yet so can't get a driver's license.

Can't EVEN get a satellite dish. Geesh!
