Just recieved ds230 packet in mail. Checklist requires Police certificates. When i called Calgary Police Service. they asked if I needed fingerprint search or Name/ Date of Birth. I'm assuming fingerprint since checklist requires two sets of same. Calgary Police service says finger print search takes 3-6 months. Is this correct? Has anyone had this search done? If so how long does it take?

Howdy!! Do you have a criminal record? Ever have one? if not all you need is the CANADA WIDE back ground check (NO fingerprints)

At 1 time all they accepted was RCMP back ground checks (unless u were in Toronto--but your not, so i wont go there) If you can I would stil lget the local RCMP detachement to do the background check. If you go and use the calgary city police (others on VJ have used city police forces with success) ensure it states on the certificate it has been down canada wide!!

Regarding the RCMP cert, some detachments charge a fee, some don't. some take minutes to do, others take days. Phone ahead and see how long it take and what they require. Some actually want some kind of proof you are doing it for immigration. So in conclusion, if no criminal record ever, NO fingerprinting, just the name background check CANADA WIDE! Best of luck.

No criminal record. I will check into going straight to RCMP. Calgary Police say 4 weeks for name/D.O.B. chack. Hopefully they are faster.

So much for the computer age.

I will post results .... Thanks

Figured there had to be either a Calgary or Atlanta connection .... plus with Greenwood and Arlington Va I guessed Air Force as well. I'm the USC, wife is from Calgary been here 13 years, now looking to move back (job reasons). Thanks for your input.
