fable
Hello All,

Do any of you have any experience with temp agencies? What sort of requirements do administrative temps need? I know that when I started working I just walked in. Will my fiancee be able to work once she gets her EAD straight off the bat with a temp agency?

thanks.

Big Agnes!
Hello,

Temp agencies have the same work authorization requirements as any other employer. Your fiancée should be able to work right off the bat with an EAD, as long as she also has a social security number/card. Keep in mind that she'll have to apply for another EAD after you get married, but in terms of what employers require, a valid EAD and social security card should do it. Fortunately, getting the social security card is pretty easy--you just go to the local social security office and show them ID (passport) and the visa. The card should arrive in a couple of weeks. You can apply for a SSN before you get married. http://www.ssa.gov/immigration/ has more info. I think that the process has been streamlined recently, so you might be sent a social security card and not have to go to the office.

I worked with a temp agency so as to get some US experience under my belt when I received my EAD.

The will require two forms of ID along with authorization to work, from two different qualifying sections they are allowed to accept.

Proof such as driver's license and/or passport will be acceptable and EAD and/or appropriately documented SS card will be acceptable.

Yep I started my working life in the State with a Temp agency.... all I used was my Passport and EAD and SSN and my UK dirvers licence... got offered my full time post after only 2 placements... so worked out good for me...

Most temp agencies will require that you have references, and some will require that those references be prior US employers. But, if you shop around, hopefully one will be willing to give a new immigrant a chance good.gif
