hi, i have not intended trip planned for the next 12 months with my husband but we will eventually want to go back to his country. anyways. how long is an AP good for? and how long would it take us to get an emergency AP in case of a family crisis?

is there a cost difference between the AP and emergency AP?

and when do folks generally apply for the AP, right when they adjust status? or months after?

Get the regular AP. Think of it as 'travel insurance'. Avoid the stress of trying to get an emergency AP.

I agree with rch99, get the AP. It will be good for a year and then if you want to travel you have it. Cost should be the same

bachatera,

An AP document is normally valid for 1 year from the date of issue.

These days the I-131 application is processed at the NBC. If an an I-131 has been submitted for processing and an emergency arises the local District or Sub office may, at it's discretion, issue an AP document on that basis. Recognize that their concept of what constitutes an emergency may be different from yours, and they may not entertain your request at all if you haven't already submitted an I-131 application through the proper channel.
