Ok gang, here's the question:

Nhu hasn't received her packet 3 yet, tho HCMC says it was mailed out on May 10. Should I wait a few days more, or should I have her go to the Embassy and pick up the paperwork?

I know a few of you got it between 2-3 weeks, but the waiting is driving us both crazy and it seems a little needless. Is it possible to even pick them up in HCMC? I recall someone else (maybe STL_HCMC, or menyoo and a valid reason: address change). I keep trying to look in the archives and get distracted by someone elses posts smile.gif

Thanks!

Hi Icarus,

Where was the packet 3 mailed to in Vietnam? HCMC?

The Consulate will tell you to wait 1 month before coming to the consulate and physically receiving another packet 3.

If you found my other posts regarding domestic mailing, I can tell you now that the original packet 3 that they sent to my fiancee's registered address in Can Tho still has NEVER arrived. Perhaps they told the Can Tho post office to hold that mail since they sent out another one to my office address in HCMC.

Our situation was this: On April 4th, I sent an email to the consulate telling them of an address change for mailing purposes. I changed the mailing address from my fiancee's Can Tho address to my office address in HCMC. The US Consulate was behind on email, so I called them on April 18th to inquire about the address update. It was at that time that the consular woman on the phone told me that the previous day (April 17th) the first packet 3 was sent to Can Tho. However, she was very nice and went to search for my email that had yet to be read, updated the address in the system and subsequently sent out a 2nd packet 3 to my office address in HCMC. That packet 3 arrived 2 days after her putting it in the mail.

In an even more comical ending to this situation, it appears the consulate finally got caught up on email sometime later, and we received a 3rd packet 3 at my office address. Apparently whoever was reading the email didn't see that the address had already been updated and a second packet 3 already sent.

If I remember correctly, Menyoo's fiancee lives near the post office in Can Tho, and received her packet 3 without any problem.

Let me know if I can help you more! Best of luck.

Thanks for the quick response! Nhu lives to the south in Bac Lieu, and usually gets my mail within 10 days. I'll let her know that we should continue waiting (any reason to call and hear her voice!) and that it'll probably arrive within the next week biggrin.gif thanks again for your help STL, I'll buy you a nice warm one in HCMC in a few months!

Icarus,

No problem at all. I just try to chime in when I can help. Good luck to you both.

If perhaps she doesn't end up receiving packet 3 at her address in Bac Lieu, and has to travel to the US Consulate in HCMC for a replacement, does she have a reliable address (i.e. relative) in HCMC that she could update the consulate with? This might prevent from the same situation happening with packet 4 and/or any other additional mailing the consulate might have.

I just stressed in my email to the consulate that my office address was ONLY a reliable mailing address for my fiancee. I didn't want them to get confused and think my fiancee's registered and/or current address in HCMC was changing.

Oh yeah, they were more than happy to address any mail coming to my office address to my fiancee AND c/o my name.

Congrats, hopefully you can get the proper documents returned. Can you let me know if in her packet 3 she received a DS-230 Supplement, asking her about her siblings?

Well, congratulations then.

According to your timeline it's only been 3 weeks since the NVC received your case. Actually, are you sure the consulate doesn't have it yet? You should shoot them an E-Mail to confirm. In any case you are about a month early for expecting pack 3. Patience.

Thanks! I was on webcam with her over the weekend, and it looks like she received all the correct forms. She even filled them out and mailed them back already! Thank g-d for VJ, it has definitely helped us be prepared at each step!
