Just curious... I was going to donate my hair to locks of love but it's not long enough yet. But I was reading their FAQ and they said a LOT of the hair that gets donated is too badly damaged to use because it's been dyed/permed/straightened/bleached/etc etc.

I bet they'd love me to donate my hair. No dye or anything, down to my lower back, and it's in very good condition because I never blow dry it. Not a split end in sight and I haven't cut it in over a year...
You've half-way convinced me, but it'd be tough for me to part with the length...

Sounds like it would probably be ideally usable for them. Their FAQ says that the hair has to be at least ten inches long, not dyed or treated, and if it's damaged they can't use it (for obvious reasons - who wants a wig that comes with its own split ends?!) But nobody can force you to cut your hair to any particular length - only you can decide what you want to do. I've always loved having long hair but my hair really looks best when it's shorter and the natural curl can come out more - the longer it is the more it pulls itself down flat with its own weight...

I never had hair long enough to donate although my co worker just donated 17 inches of hair. Her hair was amazingly long down past her butt. She got married the other night and wanted less hair to put up in the tierra.
I had shoulder length hair, but it would never grow longer than that. I just got it cut into a bob for the wedding as it too daym hot here to deal with long hair.
I go through phases for the last three years my hair has gotten longer, now it's reversing itself.
I think I will have to start dying it since the gray is really starting to show.

Mine was 20 inches but I got frustrated one night and cut it to my shoulders, it is growing back now. I always color and highlight it.

Long, dyed. (Natural color is a dark ash blonde/light ash brown, and I hate it, plus it's lighter than my skin tone and looks really freaky. I dye it something that claims to be "medium golden brown" but usually comes out more chestnut. The pic on the left is a pretty good approximation--and the pic of Gareth is pretty close to my natural color!) I started growing it back when I lived in New Jersey because it's really pretty when it's long and most women there have short or shoulder-length hair. Now I'm in New Mexico and everyone has long hair, so I'm thinking of cutting it.
But I just started a diet and I feel like cutting it now would be cheating—I'd estimate I have about 2-3 pounds of hair to cut right now. (Most I ever cut it at once was 8 inches, and that was five pounds!) So I want to lose the weight, *then* cut the hair.

Mine is shoulder length, the longest it's been in years. I've never had long enough hair to donate to locks of love, and I have dyed my hair a lot so it probably wouldn't work out anyway.
Right now my hair is just it's natural color, dark brown, but I have dyed it many times in the past from red to black to blonde streaks, etc. Hair is fun to do stuff to.

My hair is like we call castanho in brazil, a dark blonde, very long, very straight and natural (i mean the lenght) it's like almost 70 cm, i think thats 27.56 inches, dunno if the convertion is right

i'd donate a kidney but i'd never cut and donate my hair. If there're two things i'm very proud of myself is my hair and my green eyes.

That's very interesting, linguistically I mean. My hair is naturally the same color as what you mean; but in Spanish I wouldn't call it castaño ... castaño is what I would call the color I have it dyed, chestnut brown (since chestnut=castaño). Castaño is also the generic word for brown hair.
In Spanish (or in Spain at least) I'd call it (your color, which is also my natural color) trigueño--"wheat-colored." (But in Mexico "trigueño" refers to someone with skin that color!)
(If you look at my icon, my hair is castaño and Gareth's is trigueño ... which I think is what you call castanho, right?)

When my hair gets 'really long' if I pull it over my shoulders it hangs down to my boobs... (what really made me think of that though was Zorro - he's fencing with an attractive young lady and he goes zip zip and down falls her top, and her long flowing hair perfectly covers her charms

I wear my hair long for a male but it is still nowhere near shoulder length - mostly it is just very full and thick - and it has a mind of its own - it completely does its own thing

Every day the part is in a different place, believe it or not.
My hair and I have an understanding: it can go white or silver anytime it wants to but gray is NOT an option!

LOL about the zorro story. My hair's almost down to my waist now... I'd really love it butt-length, if I can get it that long without getting pissed off at it. I've never donated to locks of love, but if I ever decide to cut it and there's enough there of good enough quality for them, I'd gladly donate it.

I won't donate my hair because i don't want to give it to anybody, even if I would get them short.
My hair is long, I never did anything to it excpet last time, i asked for a few highlights because i start to have a bunch of grey hairs but it's very light. I'm always complimented for my hair, I take good care of it, don't blow dry and take every day 9 pills of the magic brewer's yeast and give 3 to my cat once in a while.
The picture on my profile is my new haircut I love it!!! New from June so I guess it's time to get a new one, now they are almost on my cheast.
