Hello everyone,
I have finally received the g325-a from my husband in Morocco and I will be mailing it on tuesday, incha Allah! They want a certified copy of my birth certificate. How does this differ from me making a copy using the regular machine at work? If there is a difference, where would one get a "certified" copy from?

Who wants a certified copy? Are you meaning for an initial filing of the I-129F?

14. USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.
At the discretion of the officer, original documents may still be required in individual cases. Please be advised that USCIS no longer returns original documents submitted with the exception of Certificates of Naturalization, Forms I-551, Permanent Resident Card, Forms I-94, Arrival/Departure Document, valid passports, or those specifically requested by the officer. Such documents will be returned when they are no longer needed.

Hi There...
By the term "certfied", they mean it must have a state seal. You can send a copy, and they will be able to see the seal. This is what I did, and had no problems at all.

Just take a Photocopy of your marriage certificate and send it. USCIS just needs a copy for filing -- the copy does not have to be certified or notorized.

If the Consulate/Embassy asks for a certified copy, I would be getting a certified copy for them. Your state's vital records office will be able to issue it for you if you are not in the city where you were born. I ordered mine online from Florida, some states allow this. Why take the chance of having them tell you that a photocopy is not sufficient?
If they want a certified copy, then I sure as hell would send them a certified copy. Go to the county clerk where you were born, and pay them to give you a certified copy of your birth certificate. Run that thru a copying machine, and send them the copy.
