Hi guys,

Ive seen in the gallery a copy of the British instuctions on police certs, and which countries NOT to attempt getting them from. Can anyone tell me what the Australian instructions say with regard to Cambodia??

Interestingly the Brit. instructions list Cambodia as a country where it is impossible to obtain one, and the embassy will arrange it. I already got one ( Im still here, getting ready to return to OZ) but it has a very short validity ( 3 months) and I expect with the new IMBRA debacle, it will expire before I get to interview stage. I can go and update it before I leave, but it wasn't cheap to get, and may be pointless if Australia has no expectations of me being able to arrange one, and will do it for me.

Thanks for any input.

What the British instructions say would of been been taken from the reciprocity table which tells you if and how police certificates are obtainable.......which is standard.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/index.htm

I just checked my instructions for the police certificates here and it doesnt list any specific countries, so have a look at the reciprocity table above. Police certificates should be obtained from all countries you have lived for 6 months or more since the age of 16.

Oh for my K-1 instuctions it said at least 12 months in another country. 6 Months in another city here in Aus. I was really surprised with that cause every one else has said 6 months for overseas. That does worry me some still as I was in Sweden for nearly 9 months and I didn't bother to get a Criminal Check from Sweden.

hmmmmm thats interesting IPB Image The part I said about 6 months wasnt something that was listed on my instructions. I had nothing about length of times on my instructions at all....only the bit about all countries since age of 16. I know mine is for a CR-1 visa and yours is a K-1 but shouldnt be any different. The instructions on the DOS site actually say what you have described.....6 months for country of birth/residence then 12 months for overseas. This so confuses the hell out me lol

hi girls!
actually it is 12 months outside. Id written the consulate in a panic as Id been on a cruise ship for a couple of years. Probably 5 countries around Asia. They said I would have needed to get off at any given port for 12 months or longer to qualify as a resident somewhere else, and not to worry about it.

re cambodia, thanks Lorelle , my mistake. When I read the instructions for countries unobtainable, I did not see/ remember the small stars, ( denoting embassy access only) just figured the 20 or so on the list were the unfriendlies. Cambodia has no star, so I best I extend the clearance I have. Oh , I read that link you gave me, Cambodia is outdated, says no charge for K1 visa... they dont even do them here anymore.!! Everybody has to go to Bangkok. I heard something to do with threats and a high turnaround of Embassy visa staff. blink.gif

thanks for getting back to me
