Hi all. We had our greencard interview yesterday in Chicago and it took 15 minutes. I didn't think we were gonna get it because of the following reasons: 1) She asked when he arrived in Chicago and I said July 14th and she snapped "Ma'am I am asking him not you" so I looked at my hubby and said in our language "well tell her" and she snapped again "If you translate for him again I am gonna have to end this interview and deny your case" I was sooo scared. I thought she was asking the both of us because she was looking down. Then she asked him some questions from the form like when we got married and his parents name and what he does. Hubby just finished CNA course and works two jobs. 2) She asked for my 2005 taxes and I gave that to her then she asked for our cosponsors 2005 taxes and I didn't have it. I didn't think we needed it. The only reason I had mine was because it was proof of us filing together. I thought we were in trouble but all of a sudden she said "I am gonna approve your case, congratulations" She was automatically muich more pleasant and I made sure to apologize again for talking in my language I didnt know we couldnt. So here we are with a greencard in the mail oh so happy to be able to travel together. yiipeeee!!

I think you can take an interpreter, but spouse to spouse is a big no no. Only English can be spoken between you as you found to your embarrassment, immigration take a dim view on anything but English.

Congrats!
Your experience made me a bit nervous though. I hope our interview is not scheduled too soon; my husband needs more time to improve his english. I imagine we might need to get an interpreter then.
