My fiancee and I received our NOA2 two weeks ago and the case is already at the US Embassy in Tokyo. She received the packet of forms in the mail yesterday. I have read some stuff about the letter requesting an extension of the I-129F validity period and I have a few questions about it.

1. Should we go ahead and request an extension for just in case the process takes more than four months?

2. If we do request this extension, should the letter come from me or from my fiancee?

3. I read about some people having problem at the POE because their I-129F approval has expired. Is this a common problem at the POE or does it only happen when the immigration officer doesn't know what the rules are?

Typically as long as the consulate recieves the application prior to the expiration and they are processing it they will automatically extend it if it expires in their custody. I've not heard of entry problems from an expired I-129f since it is the K-1 visa allowing your fiance through the POE. The I-129f is simply the application for the K-1 visa.

I have read what you refer to on another site. I would take the reason cited with a grain of salt as IMO there would of been other reasons they were denied/had problems at POE. Once a visa is in hand the I-129F petition doesnt figure into it as it was only required in order to apply for the visa.
