Hello All, I initially said that I would post this review in the Latin forum, but this seems to be the correct forum to post this information, I hope it helps everyone. Please keep in mind, I WAS NOT AT THE INTERVIEW. Here it goes:
Carmen had an interview yesterday, May 23rd @ 7:45am. She arrived at 7:20am and waited in line. There is this helpful guy who points everyone in the right direction, upon Carmen showing him her interview paper, he wrote some numbers on the document and ushered her in the right line. After giving up her cell phone and going thru security, she waited until her name was called. While she waited there were three other girls waiting for the K1 interview. Only one of them had their USC Fiance with them and they got denied even though they said they were together for two years. Carmen then went to to the window (I believe it was window number 7).
The woman there first looked through her papers and talked to her co-workers and kept Carmen waiting by chatting with her co-workers about shopping, etc. This is quite annoying for Carmen, or anyone, considering your whole future is lying in this person's hands. The woman finally started paying attention to Carmen and she began asking the questions:
How did you meet? In Holland.
Where did you meet? Dancing in The Hague.
What was he doing in Holland? Studying Business.
What were you doing in Holland? Participating in a Cultural Exchange.
Does he still go to school? No, he works now.
How many times has he been to Peru? Just once, but he stayed for 3 months.
How do his parents feel about him being with you and not studying anymore? They must be okay because they came to Peru to meet my family.
How many times have you been to the states? 3 times
One which visas? The J1 and the tourist visa.
Do you plan to work when you get to the states? Yes.
After this the woman asked for my support documents. Carmen told her that both of my parents were co-sponsors, which I guess, impressed the lady in the window. The lady looked through the documents and then asked for the proof of our relationship. Carmen had them separated by continent. First she gave her a big packet of pictures, tickets, hotel receipts from Holland, than from America, than from Peru. The lady asked a few more questions about which dates we were in those countries etc.
Carmen was then asked to wait (it turned out to be 45 minutes). The next guy interviewed her at window number 13, I believe. He was an american guy who spoke really slow spanish. Carmen was polite and spoke slow spanish right back, which, he said he appreciated. The guy pretty much asked the same questions that the other woman asked.
After this he started putting stamps all over Carmen's tourist visa rendering it unusable. He explained that one of the three police reports that she submitted was from the wrong building and that as soon as she got this document she would be able to get her K1 visa. This is VERY annoying, because we followed the directions from the embassy PERFECTLY. They even give you a form that explains the mistake on their initial letter.
The man gave Carmen a yellow slip and she went on her way. SO, the police report takes 10 business days to be generated, so Carmen has to sit for another week. I am just thankful that the visa went through!
NOTE: I do not believe that the USC has to attend the interview in Peru. I was not needed. But, I think it helped that Carmen had a Tourist Visa, a J1(work visa), and that we met in Holland. We have proof of spending time on three different continents together, so that was definitely in our favor.
Let me know if anyone has any questions, I will do my best to answer them!!
