Hi Joel,

Thank you for sending that to me. Apparently, this just started
happening, but it should not be a factor in your case.

A new law took effect earlier this year that required USCIS to gather
information from petitioners about whether they had ever been accused of
domestic violence in the past, how many K1 petitions they had filed
before, and a variety of other issues. But, the new law only is
supposed to only apply to cases filed AFTER the effective date of the
law, which was March 5, 2006; so, it should not apply to your case.

Apparently, USCIS has completely dropped the ball on gathering the
required information/complying with the law, and that is leading them to
a "petition recall" for some cases that got approved after the law took
affect where they never gathered the proper information. I'm going to
guess that the majority of those cases were approved by the Vermont
Service Center (that serves the Northeast part of the U.S. only) because
of the timing of the approvals. It's a pretty bad situation.

Again, this should not really affect your case, but it is another
example of USCIS completely messing up processing of K1 petitions. I am
worried that this is somehow affecting your case indirectly, and am
going to keep monitoring the situation with your petition and sending
inquiries.

Sincerely,

Alex Halow, Immigration Attorney
