I took a few years of Spanish in collage, but it all slipped away. Once in a while I can understand it.
I guess I need to polish up on it since most of Tucson is Spanish speaking, but then again I feel the Spanish speakers should be speaking English first as they are in the US.
I wish I could get the hang of German since Anton's first language is German and it would be nice to be able to speak with his relatives.

I speak English and Spanish fluently, know a fair bit of Catalan, and can survive in French or Portuguese if I *really* have to. If I had to choose a language to learn, I'd probably go with Russian or ASL, unless it had to be one I'd never studied, in which case probably either Japanese or Mandarin Chinese.
Gareth would like to learn Spanish (partly 'cause I speak it, mostly 'cause we live in Albuquerque and half the things have Spanish names and he's tired of asking me what things mean) but he's awful at languages.

I don't know about Arizona, but here in New Mexico, many of the Spanish speakers have been living in the same town for several centuries. It's the English speakers who are the newcomers.

Since I live in Hawaii, I would love to learn more of the Hawaiian language. (Not "pigeon"!!!

I speak two languages fluently (English and German), but I speak enough French to get around and have conversation in it (as long as people don't mind my abysmal grammar). I also know Latin, but most people don't speak it.
Currently, I'm learning Dutch for work. I can sort of understand Dutch (growing up close to the Dutch border helps), and I can read it very slowly with the help of a dictionary, but I want to become fluent in speaking and reading soon. So, I guess I want to learn Ducth, unless you're asking for a language I've never studied, and then my choice would be Russian.

I only know English. I know how to say a little in spanish but definitely not fluent in it.
I really need to learn Hindi as Sujeet's mom does not speak English. So in order to be able to talk to her, I have to learn Hindi. Not an easy task...
Sujeet knows 5 languages fluently(4 Indian languages and English), and he primarily speaks English nowadays. He only speaks Hindi and some other Indian language on the phone with his family and friends from India or while in India. I think if he could learn another language he'd want to know Spanish.

I speak French, Guyanese Créole (which is a little different from the ones spoken in Haiti or in the French West Indies), some Spanish and some Italian. I can also speak and understand a little of the dialects spoken by Amerindian tribes in Guyana.
I would like to learn Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin?) because it is the language of the future! I don"t think I will ever succeed though....
How do you say "Nice to meet in" in Chinese?

Nice to meet you...

I'm monolingual... I did French in highschool but it was so long ago that I can't remember a word and I was never 'fluent' (I never managed to learn enough to actually be useful in the first place!)
If I was going to learn another language it seems that Spanish would be the most useful, and I've seriously considered giving it a go more than once. I don't have a very good 'ear' for languages though so I've chickened out.

I'm great with English... I said I speak two languages....but to qualify it, I speak Korean only a little....learning more all the time though...so if I were to learn another language, I would want to speak Korean a lot better. I would also like to learn Spanish because it's useful many places in the US

I will eventually learn Amharic. Sucks not to be able to speak to all of Nani's family (especially her mom) w/o a translator in the middle. Likewise, Nani will eventually pick up some German. We hope that raising our soon to be born daughter tri-lingual will help both of us pick up a thing or two on the way as well.

My native tongues are Russian and Ukrainian. I speak fluent English (although sometimes make errors

)< a bit French (studied at school), understand Polish. I'd love to learn Spanish, since I am moving to California, and improve Polish (I like it a lot. It has a lot in common with Rus and Ukr, but still quite different and peculiar). Portuguese would be fine too (dream to Visit Brazil). Once I tried to learn Finnish, because it was a period when I communicated with nice folks from Finland a lot, but it turned to be way too difficult for me (especially grammar)< but I still think it's very cool

I "know" English, French, and Chinese (Cantonese)... but I could really use some help with brushing up on the last two.
I'd love to learn Spanish and Mandarin Chinese because they're practical languages, but I'd love to be able to speak in many languages

I want to learn Esperanto and "click languages" just for fun, and Latin will always come in handy.

Coming from a country with two official languages - English and French, I would like to learn French. I was taught some in school but have forgotten it all. Encouraging my son to take French (and he is) in case he decides he wants to return to Canada to live and work.

But the pronounciation is tricky. I can never say "Xièxie" (Thank you). I try to say it but it sounds like "Ché-Chié" - which actually sounds quite funny in French...

It's one of the principal languages of the Philippines. And it's pronounced tuh-GAL-og, not like "tagalong" without the N (TAG-uh-log), which is how I used to always pronounce it.

I speak English primarily and also Portuguese (although I'm not that great)... what does "speak" a language mean? When I speak Portuguese it's very obvious I'm foreign, but it works for understanding. I used to speak French and lived awhile in Paris but that was a long time ago... I studied Spanish, Italian, Hindi, and Hebrew too, but I wouldn't say I "know" them.
I want to learn Greek because my family comes from there and my dad grew up there and I'd like to visit more. I'd also like to become fluent in Spanish because I think it's pretty necessary these days. And Italian because... it's hot.
