Ok, I am confused. A post in the General thread said that I only need to supply copies of my paystubs, w-2's, bank statements, phone records, and so on, and not the originals. For those who have already had their interview or those that are approaching their interview at HCMC, are you sending originals or photocopies? I prefer to send copies and not originals, but I thought that they can ask for originals at any time. If copies is all we need, are we allowed to black out our account numbers, etc.?

I downloaded the instruction pack for HCMC from another thread. It stated that they want one original and on certified copy. A certified copy just means Notarized????

Thanks for your help!!!

mike,

Provide photocopies for the consulate to keep for the file, have 'originals' available for them to look at in the event that they want to verify any of the photocopies that you provide.

For many financial documents the distinction between 'copy' and 'original' can be meaningless. The photocopy may be made on the same piece of equipment that printed the original. And if you print your financial documents from the internet, as I do for my paystubs, when I connect to the ADP web site and print off 2 which is the original and which is the copy?

Thanks for the advice. I am sorry about the one question that I asked because I didn't define exactly what I was asking. In the scanned copies of the Packets 3 and 4, it states that you need your original birth certificate and one certified copy. Does this just mean a Notarized copy of the original?

It also states that all documents should be either typed or handwritten using block letters. How have those of you who have filled this form out or your fiancee filled this in. I am not sure if she understands block letters. Is there a downladable form she can use???

My fiancee is now in the process of filling out the DS230 part one. If anyone can provide any useful information for filling this out it sure is welcome.

Thanks so much!!!

Mike,

My fiancee used the fillable DS-230 Part I that she downloaded from the internet. She opted not to use the one that came with packet 3 in English and Vietnamese because she thought the fillable one would look more neat and be easier for them to read. She hand delivered the packet 3 doc's back to the consulate. The woman at the window asked her why she didn't use the DS-230 Part I that was sent in packet 3, and my fiancee responded with her neat and readable reason as her answer. They accepted the documents.
