Hi

I am hoping to get an interview in the next few months and will then obviously want ot get over to GA and working asap. Does anybody have any tips on job applications at this stage? Is it best to wait until i have the visa?

Any advice is appreciated. I have worked in retail management and more manual labour/labor recently to enable the visa but i would rather not get back into retail if i can help it.

I figured i would write up a resume but wondered if there were any tips for those?

This is just a water feel type of thing.

thanks in advance.

When I arrived I just kept an eye on the classifieds...I was lucky I found a job in my field right away, so I went in and explained to them that I was interested and explained my situation regarding the wait for an EAD.....the employer just kept in touch with me and when I got my EAD, I went in and told them, and now I am starting work on the first.....I think it makes it easier if you just get out there and see what is available. As long as you don't work before you have your EAD you will be fine...good luck.

If the employer sees a foreign address, I don't think they will be inclined to contact you, just because of the logistics involved, and it will be very obvious that you are not around to interview or start the job. Just my thoughts on this. Once you are in the US and have a GC (from IR/CR), I think it will be a lot easier to get their attention.

Still, if you want to, you can apply and see what reaction you are getting. If you have unique skills, it may work.

IF you see an advertised position that you like, why don't you send in an application but use your husband's address and phone number as a contact. Sometimes the process takes a while and you may already have your GC and be in the states by the time they start interviewing and/or hiring.

I did look before I moved, and it worked out. My cover page, or cover email stated implicitly that I was relocating to the US and was looking to continue my career in such and such field. I often only asked if I could set up a meeting with them once arriving, and asked if they would have any positions, should they become available, that would suit me.

Even if I got "No's" back, it was still a first contact-no longer a stranger
and many of them said they would keep my info.

I say go for it, it can't hurt. Now's the time to be picky because once you are here you'll want to take what you can get.

Go for it but just be up front of the situation.
