Mubarak is 82 yrs old and has served for 30 something years. He wants to pass the presidency on to his son.

I recentally watched a segement on televison with Charlie Rose interviewing Naguib Sawiris.

The segment: http://www.charlierose.com/guests/naguib-sawiris

I was impressed with Naguib Sawiris and wrote his name down to research him further. I really liked what he has to say about Egyptian politics and the future of Egypt. He's wealthy, worldly educated and gives back to his country. I feel that if they could get him to run for president Egypt might have a real chance at staying stable during the transition in power from Mubarak.

Here is some more info on him:

CNN interview with him:

Who do you think would do a good job as the next Egyptian President and why?

Not sure about Egyptian presidents, but I sure wish we could get a decent Iraqi president. I'll have to follow the Egyptian choices though. I will be curious to see who takes over next.

I agree with you and he's a great businessman but he's Christian and in a Muslim country that would be a very hard sell.

Yes he's coptic chrisitan. I thought about that too.

I really hope you all get to watch the Charlie Rose segment interviewing Naguib Sawiris:http://www.charlierose.com/shows/2008/07/02/1/a-conversation-with-naguib-sawiris

Good morning Olivia
first of all i want to thank you cause you posted that topic . you did not surprise me cause you always posting very interesting topics .
let me start by saying all of Egyptians wee talking about the next president for so long time . and somehow Mubarak knows that we are talking about his son . so he said many times that his son will not be our next president . whatever he say people still don't believe him .
maybe they will put a man of their gang for a while after Mubarak and then his son will be our next president .
i think the USA embassy in Egypt know the scenario ( i remember that the last ambassador of the USA said we don't have any problem with Jamal Mubarak to be the next president but its up to Egyptians to choose him or not ).
there is something that you don't know . since Egypt become a republic (1952) we did n't choose any president so far.
people here in Egypt don't want Mubarak anymore and you can see the election result says 99.9% said yes to Mubarak.
they know how to fake the election or the voting . so no matter what we want they give us the president they want .
about Naguib Sawiris he is very good businessman he is polite man and he loves Egypt so much.
but i think there is different between a businessman and president .
maybe he is qualify to be businessman but maybe he is not qualify to be a president .
Olivia*
Yes and maybe is Sawiris heart he in more business than politics. I've learned though that the two go hand in hand nearly. I like in the interview how he said, "Sorry I try to be diplomatic but I am not very good at it coz I am frank." laughing.gif
